My eBike claim experience

Hi All,

I've read some mixed reviews about eBike and thought I would document my claim experience. I've only just started the painful process so this will be a truly impartial thread as I don't know what the experience will be like. I'm insured for 3rd Party Fire & Theft and have had the policy is just under a month old.

The story so far..

On Friday 23rd November I was riding in to work when a friendly motorist decided to do a u-turn whilst I was filtering past stationary traffic. Ambulance and Ploice attended the scene and I managed to get the details of a witness, all of whom were satisified that I had done nothing wrong and the other party was entirely to blame.

I called eBike later that day to report the accident and was told by the chap that answered the phone that his computer was down and he would call me back in 5 minutes.

I waited until Monday 26th November and having had no call back from eBike I decided to give them another go. I spoke to Jane who seemed nice enough and took my details as well those of the other party, witnesses and the police cad number. She said that they would arrange to have my bike collected and repaired and that I would be supplied with a loan bike while this was being done. I thought this was a bit of a result as I'm only insured 3rd Party Fire & Theft. I fully expect them to change their minds about this. She said that someone would call me in the next 2 days to sort this out.

About an hour after this call I got a call from Adam at Angel Assistance to say that they had been handed my claim and they would arrange to get my bike sorted in the next 2 days. So far so good.

I'll update this thread as things progress.

No word from eBike on Tuesday 27th November. I didn't really expect to hear anything from them. I'll wait another day before I start nagging them.

I gotting my nagging shoes on yesterday and gave eBike a call to find out what was going on. I spoke to Francis who told me that they had done "searches" and had not found the other partie's insurance details yet. I have the other guy's mobile number (as do they) so I offered to phone him and get the details for them.

After getting the details I phoned them back and they said that someone would call me the same day to get me a rental bike and pick up my XT to get fixed. I got a call last night from Angel Assistance again to arrange a rental bike and an inspection of my bike. We went through all the details again and in the end they decided that they couldn't proceed until they had spoken to the other insurance company and confirmed they would accept liabilty. This is exactly what I'd been expecting.

they said they would call me back today.

I've just had a call from my Claim Handler at eBike to tell me that the other party are claiming that they think the liabilty is 70/30. What a load of ********! The independant witnesses and the police were both satisfied that I was totally blameless.

It turns out that the only solution they can offer is to get the other insurance company to inspect my bike. I can't see how that will help me. The real kicker is that they doubt this will be done before next year! The only advice they can offer is for me to keep all receipts so that I can claim for the additional travel costs. The 2 hours a day I don't get to spend with my kids is just my loss.

They want me to call back in 2 weeks to see how things are going.

What a bunch of w*nkers.

The saga continues...

I decided to call the car driver and let him know that his insurance company were claiming split liability. His words were "they haven't, have they?". I explained to him that he was 100% liable and his answer was "yes, of course I am." He ensured me that he would call up his insurance company and get it straightened out. This sounds like a bit of a result, so we'll have to see where this latest development leads.

I called eBike, Southern Rock & The Claims Service before finally finding out I need to speak to Angel Assistance. I've now let them know that the other chap has admitted 100% liabilty. I've found out that my claims has gone to the legal team. They couldn't teall me the signifance of that other than it was the next step in the process. Note made on file, continue to sit and wait...

The other guy phoned me yesterday to let me know that he had spoken to his insurance company to tell them that he accepted liability. Apparently the insurance company claimed they hadn't recieved the police report yet. Sounds like an excuse to delay things. The police told me that they would't get involved unless there was a huge personal injury claim.

I phoned Angel Assistance today and they are waiting for written confirmation that the other party accepts liability. They have no idea how long that will take so now I just have to wait indefintely....

A mate helped me to bend the bars straightish and as long as I grip the sidepanels with my knees over 60mph to stop them blowing off then it's rideable.
