Started off by fitting a 12V power supply (cigarette lighter type) , then wired up and fitted a aux fuse box. Fixed my TUTORO oiler as it had a blockage and then just fitted a TT GPS mount.

Today i did the cush drive mod as mine had loads of play also swapped the chain rollers around as the bottom one was completley shot need to buy a new one for the top now :-(
|
I also installed the cush drive mod.
While the rear wheel was removed, I cleaned the chain also. A small canister filled with chain cleaner and then I dipped the chain right into it :) had to let it soak a little, gently brushed, pulled the chain and dipped another part etc. I don't know why i've never done that before, this is the best way! Replaced coolant while installing new Kev O2 mod (i know it wasn't necessary I was already there, so what the hell :) ) |

After a LOOOOONG winter the snow and ice is finally disappering!! So its time to wake up the XTR...
I have modded with PCIII, DNA1 & 2, GPR slip-on, 14t sprocket, shorted dog bones to raise the bike 35mm, change foot pegs, mounted new Maxxis tire and have it dynod. Now Im wondering what bash plate to go for. I have one home made but I think it looks too weak so maybe I order one from OTR..... I took it for a ride yesterday, the rain was pouring down but it was fun. The power is really linear and the torque is amazing! This weekend Ill be on a one-day gravel training. //cage |
Finally got around to installing a proper power socket on the dash.
http://my2wheels.webs.com/tenere/socket.jpg (Much easier than the temporary connection I had rigged under the seat!) |
Oil and filter change (thanks go to Opie by the way for their service) ready for the trip down to the Lakes.
A few bits of bling arrived so got round to fitting them. OTR headlight protector - sits too close to the headlight for my liking - will be hard to get those squished insects off. Front foot rests - ebay - had to modify slightly with a grinder. OTR rear brake lever extension - comes in s/s finish but painted it black. Brake snake - ebay http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/.../pict01051.jpg http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/.../Pict01061.jpg http://i1192.photobucket.com/albums/.../Pict01031.jpg |
what is the red thing in front off the brakepedal for something?

Jmo and Stoic advised that it may be an idea if I was to alter the lever in anyway - specially if extending it out the way -which I have. I'm certain that those guys ride with a LOT more passion than I will ever do so the chances of mine being bent badly out are low but I like to take advice from those who know. I think you will find pictures of bent brake levers in the post 'any footpegs lying about' |
Last Friday I had my new Wilbers Fork Springs installed with Castrol Fork Oil SAE15 (I ordered Wilbers Fork Oil SAE15, but OTR send Castrol...). The behavior of the bike truly changed! It felt like train on the highway and corners! It was fully loaded and it was a joy to ride for a trip of 320km!! I'm really happy with that change!

Installed LeoVince X3 today... Sounds like it should have sounded from factory! With street leagal baffels nice low sound, with throtle some serious roar. And that stock cans metallic sound is gone! Now I realize most of metallic noise is from stock cans. Some serious backfiring now, but I dont mind :096:
Waiting for my KevFuelMod and DNA Stage1 & 2... :smilies1349: http://s4.postimage.org/qrdn6u78/IMG_1688.jpg http://s4.postimage.org/qrfaq6p0/IMG_1691.jpg http://s4.postimage.org/qrilsvok/IMG...529_154551.jpg |

Today, well yesterday, I installed some homemede 90mm stainless dogbones which lowered my XTX by 20mm + slid forks through 20mm.
I can touch the floor properly now, bike feels much more stable. Also Sorted out the half finished metalic paint job on the tank. By using T-Cut I carefully and gently worked at the paint until the dull oil grabbing matt paint finish turned into a nice glossy shiny finish that i can now wax, peviously the wax was just leaving a white mess and no shine. Now it sparkles. Pics to follow. |

Fitted a new rear tyre and a new 42t rear sprocket
|
Bent the handlebars
Dropped it going on a track in third gear, got caught in the old tyre ruts, bike went one way and me the other. No damage to me, apart from feeling the idiot. When I got back on I initially thought I must have somehow stretched my right arm. No, the bars have an interesting curve forwards now. Need to order some new ones. Fast, but not clever.

I replace the head bearings....
OK, I was a head race virgin, but chisel, heat, chisel and fianally (after the sodding collar wouldn't budge a fraction, I cut the ****** off with the dremmel. Put a cut almost through it then stuch a chisel in it and gave it a tap - BINGO! it cracked and I managed to remove it with a rubber mallet. So, while I was at it, Nice new Renthal High Bars, so I could remove the risers (that I never really liked on the bike), and I re-routed the throttle cables above the oil pipe (under the tank). In for a penny, in for a pound as they say. So some Barkbusters (2nd hand) and new Oxford Sports heated grips. The Renthals lift the Barkbusters up, so at full lock the guards don't hit the headlight assembly. They do (just) touch the clocks, so a little <fluffy side> velcro has been fitted to stop any marking. It was pointed out at the MOT that the head bearings were on thier way out, the steering was a little stiff in one direction (but not the other !). It felt like it could just be resistance from the cables, not much at all. Also (in hindsight) the bike never liked hands free riding and would drift off to the nearside. Not any more, straight as a straight thing that is really straight. Cornering is much more positive, like it was when I first got the HyperPros fitted. The point I'm making, when these thing start to go, as you are riding it every day, you just don't notice the small changes. Unless you know what to look for, and it's very subtle, you really should have someone else look at your bike now and then. Still got the rear to look at...... (tyre, pads and maybe a GULG-Special tail tidy....) |
I agree with GULG my head race bearings where shot and i only released after i road my dads bike that i said to him to take my XTR out. He got back after about 3 miles and told me to get it looked at!!!!! Got my monies worth as even the mechanic was surprised i was still riding the thing:bigwink:
|
road it every day as usual, never cleaned it as usual, and stuck a lovely big woooooooooooollllllllllly sheepskin rug on the seat, after making it look old and nackered coz when I received it looked a tad puffy fluffy poofy :gayrepost: .... and have now my bike is called Larry.... baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa:nana:

I think you should get rubber levers Ian. The red colour seems to like lying down lots and the Touratech guards are sh1te. lol.

Added a home made front mudguard a few weeks ago.
Got to try it in the rain last night for the first time. Works a treat, no more water in the face from the front tyre.:icon_biggrin: http://www.xt660.com/gallery/display...p?imageid=2002 http://www.xt660.com/%3Cimg%20src=%2...0mod%22%20/%3E |
This week I attached a b&b bashplate (heffer of a thing at 4kg) and managed to do so without instructions as it didnt come with any. Havent had a chance to ride with it to see if it will stay on because I noticed paint had come off the centre stand bracket and footpeg bracket and I was scared it might rust in time. So now, 3 days later, my bike is still standing up leaning against my garage wall because I have removed both footpegs and therefore both stands. Lesson learned... If the instructions on the Killrust can say that you cant spray paint when its less that 10 degrees then it means you should not spray paint when its less than 10 degrees!!! It means you have to sand back the dodgy paint and start again. I frustrate myself sometimes!!

I changed ma oil an filter the nite there... needs tyres an achain to folllow when the moneys back up

Another tail cut
I stripped the back end down yesterday and started cutting and moving things about today.
