I purchased a new Avon Distanzia rear tyre for my XTX from eBay. It arrived today and I now realise my bikes current rear tyre is well worn! I noticed a nasty cut in the tyre on Sunday whilst out riding so decided to replace it immediatly.

I fully expect it to improve the handling in the corners as I had noticed the handling starting to deteriorate due to a squared off rear tyre.

I called my nearest bike shop who fitted my last tyre to be told I can drop it off and collect in 8 days! I said forget it so Wednesday I am going to attempt to fit it myself. Good practise as I have never swapped a motorcycle tyre in my life. I have the tools already, just never used them so here goes.

It's the sticky tape that gives it the overally strength :)

Today there was lots of polishing on menu.
Ufff, hard work!

Close to the end. Just need to put some protection lack tomorrow and fit it on the bike. Get him one nice cleaning and then I am ready for the season!

First I Installed PC5 and coated the internal side of bash plate with the same stuff they use on car bases. I dont know how it's called in english, we call it "mastix". This stuff:
http://static2.album.ee/files/969/4/...26113_2Cgs.jpg

It is for supressing the hollow noise that the bash plate is reflecting from the engine. I dont know the results yet, as I haven't started the engine since i did it, it takes a while for this stuff to dry.

Btw I noticed that my otr 2-in1 pipe had burned the clutch cable's throat , so I need a new cable, also :(
I don't know how other people have routed their cables, so it wouldn't burn. It melted a bit on the engine side, too, because it touched some metal parts. But this is going off-topic already :P

Forgotten rim protector (and new tyres)

Removed the side stand as I wasn't using it.

Fitted Conti TKC80's to the Tenere. First tyre took three hours, second tyre took 30 mins and the third tyre... well, that only took twenty minutes. I can assure you that the air was blue when, as I packed all my tools up, I discovered a rim protector was missing. back into the tyre, and there it was. What a t***pot.

Here is a pic of my trick to break the bead on stiffer tyres like the Metzeler Tourances.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10677153/bead.jpg
So, my long Buzetti tyre leaver in, then push the shorter Motion Pro lever between that and the rim with a short 3/8 socket extension under the lot and some serious welly.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10677153/protect.jpg
It was one of these home made rim protectors that I forgot in the wheel. They are just lengths of hose cut down the middle.

Connected the high level brake lights in the Givi top box and rode 160 miles before breakfast to Scarborough and back.

At 4 degrees it wasnt the warmest ride I have ever had but bearable with the heated grips.

Then Sunday I spent the day getting the Tenere ready for our touring Holiday .
we leave 3 week's today so I took the chance to do a full service and fit the TKC80's .
Head stock bearings were as dry as the Sahara Desert :?
Rear pad's were 2/3rds worn so I fit a new set. The front pad's had plenty of life left in them.
I Then took the bike for a 5 mile ride to make sure all was well.

nige-xt 05-04-11 18:34

Well today i fitted the K&N stage 1 and DNA stage 2 air filters, also fitted the kev mod fork spacers. Also fitted some new decals to the bike. More mods to slowly come.

Tony660x 05-04-11 19:04

Replaced the brake fluid for fresh stuff in the rear brake system, purchased a new shiney right hand tank scoop to match all the other shiney panels I now have courtesy of Ebay etc.

looking soooo good mate!!!:toothy1:

Bear 05-04-11 21:21

I like the decals

Kev 05-04-11 23:10

I like.

nige-xt 06-04-11 09:24

Thanks for the compliments guys :toothy3:, i just used rennies design soon as i couldn't get the zip file, there made from 3m vinyl but layered, tricky to fit the rear mud guard one, printed would be easier but i don't own a vinyl printer cutter yet. The small xtx one was built up first and just stuck in place dry. At least the colours will last and there quite strong and durable.

aps 06-04-11 21:47

I did oil and filter change. Also I clean and lube my chain. Previous owner as I can see dodn't know that you have to clean chain from time to time. He did lubricate it but never clean it. Chain become really sticky. I took some kerosene and clean it. Chain was so dirty that I had to clean it twice. Now chain look like new.

Nic 08-04-11 15:26

First service done (1000km) and Akrapovic cans fitted! just wow they look awesome and the sounds is great compared to stock ones,
Will fit PC3, DNA stage1&2 and Kev's o2 mod next week and then get a custom map!
