foot pegs

Do you not want the option of being able to take someone on the back? if not
should'nt you remove the grab rails now, or will you use them to strap stuff to the back of the bike.

Jason

I don't lift at all, I do find the grab handles useful when moving the bike around.:icon_scoot[1]: I removed them on my last XTX but have decided to leave them on this time.

I am busy working on my next mod on the rear end, I am going to try something different, something that has not been done on the XT yet. I ordered the parts I need this past Saturday & will put it together soon.

Tony660x 09-03-08 10:47

I fitted crash bungs and swapped my visor for a smoked one...

tlexup 09-03-08 11:54

I tried to fit a Tom Tom Rider GPS.... well just tried to find a place where to mount the original mounting kit.... but I decide to just don't use it and make my own custom bracket.... I'll post some pics when finish the job :-)

Kev 09-03-08 11:56

Great stuff, at least I am not the only one trying different things on my bike.

maxwell123455 09-03-08 12:18

I went off roading, near burning half my rear tyre on the stones trying to get it up the hills (too heavy but fun), near mashed my legs to pieces when i came off my cousins trails bike at about 25mph (fixed it again both legs and bike).

And now i am in the process of getting my debit card sorted with paypal so i can get my membership sorted on here and pay techno prisoners for an oem gear lever and a touratech one.

Go me.

and also to do for the rest of the week, getting my tyres changed over for the TKC80s (tractor tyres), go off roading again, fit the new touratech gear lever (if possible), and go for a few drinks with my mate for his birthday (havent seen him in 5 weeks, hes working away from home at the mo)

Denny 10-03-08 07:55

Removed topcase holder/grab rails
Fitted new ContiForce SM rear tyre
Almost removed passenger pegs (thank god I didn't)
Washed her
Took her off-roading (photo's to come in the evening)

CaptMoto 10-03-08 08:03

I am not telling.... I was going to fit something yesterday but... was unlucky, I'll have to wait a little longer now. :happy8: :angry7:

Now Denny wouldn't it have been a better idea to go off roading before you wash your bike?????:102:

Denny 10-03-08 09:04

Yeppp, it sure would have!!

I was told before the ride it would be gravel tracks but I soon found myself ploughing through knee deep mud!! I gotta say I was blasting through & past everything, putting other 'enduro' bikes with knobblies to shame :D

200 miles you do clock up the miles, gonna have to get my skis on to catch you.

FostersMonster 10-03-08 13:36

i don't call it a ride unless theres three numbers in the mileage!:toothy11:

Fast Fattie 10-03-08 13:45

Sad to say....but absolutely nothing. Bike sat in the garage all weekend, while the wife and I had a weekend in rome.

midlife crisis 10-03-08 14:31

She had her weekly bath and checks. Greased up all the important bits and replaced my scratched up old front mudguard with Captn Moto's old one (cheers mate, I owe you a drink).

Then off course I had my magical underwater voyage to work this morning... makes it all worth while dunnit???

WHERE'S THE EFFING SUMMER??????

Bear 10-03-08 20:34

I took mine out too fill it up with fuel and ended up doing 140 miles then took it home and washed it cos my scottoiler was turned up too high and my back wheel was horrid!! I love my bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kwik Kiwi 11-03-08 06:30

Having just recently completed an awesome 2600km/5 day ride around New Zealands South Island I have had to replace my tyres today.I had Michelin Pilot Road 2's fitted and I must say they look very nice.Although it is still a 160/60,the rear is noticably wider than my previous tyres. Will have to give them a good scrub in this weekend!

Chiliconcarne 11-03-08 12:16

Bike have been too long in garage. On saturday I am going to fit my brand new fuelling mod made by Kev and front fork spacer mod also made by Kev. Looking forward to see what he is up next... Otherwise I think my bike is ready for the summer.

If weather is any good on weekend, I think I'll take her to a little ride

In two weekends time I am pulling my motor apart & am going to try & fit a Raptor 700 barrel with a JE 11:1 high compression piston & a stage 1 Hot Cam, so I will be busy. Then a quick running in, then on the Dyno to see the gains.

Certainly sounds interesting. Once set up on the dyno I would be more interested in how it actually feels to ride rather than the figures - I guess there's gonna be a massive difference in the way the bike feels.
64bhp and a big grin - that's my prediction :idea1:

I rode mine to Bosnia

hope it all works well for you kev. I think that would then make the XT an even bigger beast to hold onto.

Thanks for the spacer mod feed back Motonacio.

If I get 55HP I will be happy, anymore then that will be a bonus, I am more interested in the torque curve then peak HP from this mod. If I wanted big HP I would have ordered a stage 2 camshaft.

meach 16-03-08 19:45

Seeing as the weather was not good i decided to treat my bike to a well earned good clean. Cleaned the link pipes and even had a go at the spokes, i wish i hadn't bothered!!!!! What a horrible job and how hard is it to get your back wheel back in on your own???????? Or is there an easy way and i am a bit thick:smilies0948:????? That last bit doesn't need answering!!!

Davey Boy 16-03-08 20:40

Fitted two Kev mods today

I purchased the tail riser and the fork spacers and decided to fit them today as it has pi++++ down with rain here all day.
I started with the riser which I found to be an absolute doddle, as per Kev's instructions. I did place my small trolley jack under the skid plate and after removing the nuts from the two bolts I jacked the rear half of the bike slowly pulling on the bolts at the same time, once the jack was in the right position, the bolts came out with no effort at all. This in turn kept the bike in the exact position to slide in again. Very easy to fit and again kev's photo instructions made the job so much easier. I have read that some of you have had to remove the exhaust, I am running with arrows and there is no need to remove it as there is just enough clearance to remove the top bolt.
As this didn't take as long I moved onto the fork spacer mod which I found a little awkward doing this on my todd. I removed everything as per the instructions, took the weight off the front wheel but as first thought the bike was unsteady. I used the jack again but found as I was attempting to push the fork top nut down to get the thread going I was pushing down against the spring not getting anywhere. After half hour of struggling and scratching my head, I decided to hold the fork leg pulling up whilst pushing down with the nut, job done in 10 minutes!!. I have only ridden it in my cul de sac as I ain't officially on the road yet and I have to say the riding postion is awesome. I am 5'11" and on tip toes which I would say is just about borderline. I haven't adjusted anything else yet but will leave the suspension as it is unless anyone thinks otherwise and will adjust the chain, not sure wheather the mod should make it tighter or slacker. Overall I am very pleased and would recommend both the mods providing you can afford to be any higher off the ground, the bike looks better up there too. Thanks Kev, keep up the mods!!!!. Dave

No worries mate ;) If you're handy with tools have a crack yourself, it's a lot more satisfying

marjani 01-05-08 20:17

Fixed the dull tank covers with Stoneshield; pls see attached file. Looks new again!

marcnicol 04-05-08 17:45

I feel like I've got a new bike! :toothy5:

Fitted OTR adjustable levers, New Fork protectors & front mudguard, Extra bright blue headlight bulb, Dunlop Sportmax Mutant Front & Back + new tubes, rear brake pads, Iridium Sparkplug, Removed Snorkel, DNA Stage 1 Filter (waiting for stage 2) & PCIII.

Still got the Kev fork mods & tail tidy to do and that will mean all the bits I've bought will have made it onto the bike. Then I can start buying some more...

Old Git Ray 05-05-08 09:55

Is this better or worse ???

I must have done the opposite of everybody else to my new R!

I lowered the rear by 43mm with some bones from Bike Farm De.
I put on handlebar risers to accomodate the forks as below.
I lowered the forks by 50mm (43 effectively to match the rear).
Placed a rack and removeable ,top box on so I can use it to go to work on.
Modified the side stand to accomodate (a bodge actually).
Put on a medium sized smoked screen.
Put on Ascerbis handguards and spiolers.
Put in a throttle stop on the carb to limit opening to 1/4.
Put on a Yamaha bash plate (very soft ally, should have taken advice from this site - Doh).
Put on heated grips for use in the winter.
Cut out about 25mm of foam from the seat and recovered it.

These mods have lowered the seat height from a measured 875mm to 790mm.
I did the lowering mods to get the bike to fit my wife. She is still learning to ride and the throttle will stop her from riding it through a hedge (hopefully) untill she gets used to the size/power of it. This (fortunately) I have made up so I can turn a simple screw by hand and move it out of the way/return it.

The bike rides the same as before but the seat is hard especially at the sides and the whole bike feels a bit cramped for me. When she gets used to it I will probably put the foam back.

My reasons for selecting the XT660R are more for functionality than sport.

CaptMoto, I know you have done a similar thing to your seat - do you have a similar problem ??

Tony660x 05-05-08 10:41

The seat looks brilliant, when I was reading the post I was filled with horror but the end result looks fine and hopefully low enough for your wife.

Glad to hear the 1/4 throttle stop is easily removable as I would hate to ride a bike to 1/4 throttle, as you say its to aid whilst learning etc. Re the seat hardness, mine is standard thickness and it kills my rear after a while riding, I need to lose weight and start clentching my buttocks!

The bike looks really mean in the picture.

maxwell123455 05-05-08 10:43

Old git ray

Looks nice the bike and the mods youve done sounds good but it just looks wierd to me as its sitting so low to the ground now.

Its good your wife is into the biking and youve both got a bike yous can ride. As for the seat i would watch ebay and you might be able to get a second hand one on the cheap and keep the other for the wife when she wants to ride the bike. I like the sound of the throttle stop for the wife but 1/4 sounds quiet small that must restrict it alot?? Seeing as the XT's engine is quiet happyly revved for the power/speed

motonacio 07-05-08 18:48

Broke my right footpeg hanger and had to repair it.
