Cheers mate, my seat faded badly on one side (due to parkng in sun all day at work).. so i used a spare van seat cover and heavy duty staple gun to fix problem fast and cheap!! Has thin foam padding too.. more comfy on the long rides.:icon_biggrin:

Kev 13-06-08 23:45

It was nice to meet you Rob, we will catch up soon for a ride.

So can you do it with a small drill bit on the air box (if so looks good):drool[1]: I still cant get the DNA stage 2 yet :icon_frown:

Yes i too like the look ( not that you see it with side panels on) Very 'Phillip Island drilled fairing' look about it, not sure of the effect on air in-flow... (ask Kev).. but seems to do the job well.. sorry to hear bout the lack of DNA 2 at your end.. :009:

Fitted metal footpegs and acerbis handguard.

note: to fit the handguards you need to remove the grip ends and the part that's stuck inside the handlebar (don't know the exact word for this part). If you want to know how this is done or having other questions, pls let me know.

Greetings from Holland,

Marcel

I did the best thing of them all....recieved my XT supporter stickers in post, stuck them on the swingarm...
2 silver stickers would have looked cool, recieved one blue one and one silver one....

The Stranger 30-09-08 07:11

Fitted a set of Race Tech emulators and .47kg front springs.
Wicked - Now the front is cool the back needs work.
Does it ever end?

Forgive me father for I have sinned. I bolted on this monstrosity to my rear fender for I could no longer take the stream of muddy water that my rear wheel generates.

Actually, I look at it as reducing my bling-footprint....

Negitive equity not just reduced. :mbounce:

I am looking for a rear Hugger that goes all the way over the tyre like a mudguard, and put a wee mud flap on the back of that but not seen one yet....:happy7::045:

I fitted an autocom to the tenere.... Had it wired to the zumo and bluetoothed it to the phone.

I've also ordered a taller screen fom metal mule and can't wait to see if it makes any difference.

I'm currently exploring handguards but have become a bit bogged down as what to fit due to the mods I might have to make to get a set to fit. I want a pair to give tons of wind and rain protection.

Removed the oxford muffs as i found that I COULD ONLY GET TO THE CONTROLS WITHOUT GLOVES ON.

Denny 25-10-08 19:04

Whipped the K&N and the Stage II off and gave them a clean, currently drying them out before I apply the red thunder juice :D

Gave the chain a decent scrub, probably take the rear wheel off tmrw to get the sproket/nooks & kranies clean, the mrs is gonna love me doing that in the shower unit :D :D

Sanded Worry Brothers Stage II bling piece down, gonna give it a couple of matt black coats tmrw...gotta keep the stealth image alive!

Pics to be posted tmrw ;)

Oh, by the way Fran, I tried your Mr Sheen tip on getting the bike shiny...fook me it works a treat....top dollar mate

Replaced original footpegs with some metal offroad type ones...hopefully my feet will stay in place now when they get wet and muddy...

Gave my bike a good clean and polish after the trip we had, cleaned the chain and sprockets with degreaser, removed my rear carrier rack and pannier rack.

Next step is to fit socket adaptor for GPS...:o

Denny 26-10-08 17:43

Nice pegs Gerhard, where did you get them from? I have some from Ebay that are very good, but I think the angle on yours gives a slightly better position for the boot.

Here's what my bike looked like today. Going to re-fit the K&N & Stage II later this week...

Hi Denny. There is guy here in SA who makes them. Much wider that general ones from Yamaha. Your right, they are slightly angled to front, boot fit is just perfect and very comfy...must say, i thought there is going to be much more vibration coming off from the pegs, and transfer it up my foot, through my leg....into spine, into brain......what brain some of my friends will aks..?

600mile service and New Handguards

I took my bike to the dealer for its 600 mile service (only had it 9 days) and to get some hand-guards fitted to keep off the wind as I commute on the motorway and I'd rather not rely on the oxford heated grips entirely.

The grips are universal Venom ones the dealer got from bikeit.com's catalog, cheap at only 20 quid and the dealer fitted them free as I ordered them with the new bike (but they had not been in stock when I picked the bike up

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/3...8062rg9.th.jpg http://img232.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif
http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/202...8063wm5.th.jpg http://img90.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif

So far they seem to be effective with the wind deflection and the aliminium bars should give some strength to them. They are a close fit however only only just miss scraping the fuel tank or the screen at full lock.

My only misgivings are that they took the bar ends off to fitt them so the vibrations between 65-75 mph are significantly more than before. I'll have to see how it goes this week but I may be forced to bodge the guards to get the ends back on to reduce the vibration or remove them until I can get some touratech ones (though they are siginificantly more expensive). I'm rather loathe to do that with the rest of winter coming up however.

I'm hoping I can move the front metal strut more towards the centre and remove the space at the end of the bars and then screw the bar ends in to hold the side of the guard in. I was hoping to have a go at that today but as you can see from the pics its raining :)

Edit: After riding the bike to work this morning in 1 degree Celcius temps I can say they do help a bit in stopping my hands getting cold and the vibrations did not seem half as bad as my first impression. Certainly different but otherwise quite acceptable for my 1 hour trip down the motorway each way.

taller screen

Just fited the smaller of the Yamaha taller screens. Was not as fiddly as I thought it was going to be and only took about 1/2 hour. Keeps the wind of your chest but can feel my shoulders and head still getting a bit of buffeting at 70+.

When the weather (and the exchange rate) improves I will give it a proper test in France.

Fitted my freshly rebuilt and powder coated wheels and other chassis parts. Now just needs a legal front tyre, oil change and MOT.

Disc bolts were scarily tight all the way in but seem fine. Hope to give it the first shakedown run to the Ace for Yamaha day next weekend.

Picture from above added. Would recommend Central Wheel if anyone needs their wheels rebuilt - not quick but excellent work. My original spokes were very badly corroded to the point of looking dangerous.

motonacio 27-04-09 21:26

I am not a great fan of fixed luggage on a bike like the XT but there are occasions when I need a carrying capacity for awkwardy shaped loads that do not fit comfortably in my Oxford Lifetime Sports Tail/Tank/Rucksack and may be unbalanced in my OL Panniers.

Being a miser my solution is to adapt an old Renntec Sports rack from the Divvi 900 which fitted my Fazer 1000 without problem but was not suitable for the XTR .......... or so I thought. The solution came to me when I had the panels off for fitting the feeds to a tachometer. I took the rear panel off as well to see what it will look like when I break all the panels and cannot afford to replace them. By swapping the pillion grab handles over and mounting them upside down on the opposite side - I do not carry pillions as I am close to max carrying capacity solo! but I do like them for swinging the bike round on the sidestand. With two simple brackets fixed by the front bolts of the handles and the weight of any luggage pivotted on the rear handle bolt it produces a simple de-mountable rack which is mounted/demounted by the two front grab handle bolts.

One other benefit I discovered is that by using the rack to mount the panniers they are held further away from the bike at the top and hang almost vertically being held off the exhausts - although carbon CCC do not heat up much anyway - by the grab handles. All in all I am very pleased with this solution.

Fitted my second-hand Touratech Bashplate and Pivot Pegs
The bashplate came with brackets but no bolts...grrr most of my bolts are fine thread..but after a good old rummage found the perfect sizes!!
With a bit more juggling, I should be able to get the bashplate sitting a little higher.....possibly.
The bashplate is certainly on the large side.....lol

I'll let you know how I get along as soon as I've had the chance to take the bike for a spin (probably not before next weekend though).

Was a pita to install, not because of the shock itself, that part was easy. But some seriously sadistic Yamaha engineer routed the Y-piece of the exhaust right next to the top bolt of the shock. There was no way I could get the bolt out far enough without getting the exhaust out of the way. Which means tank plastics, heat shields, my Givi top plate, passenger grips, number plate holder, exhaust cover and then the exhaust itself... Nothing too difficult, but a lot of work to get at one simple bolt. The hardest part -as usual- was refitting the rear wheel. Seriously, is anyone able to do it on there own? The spacers, the brake, the wheel and the axle. I always need an extra pair of hands to get it in without the spacers falling out again.:102:
