Very neat connectors. I haven't seen those before. Care to share your source?

They are just standard insulated female crimp spades, but with heat shrink sealing the gap between the cable entry and wire giving it more strength. Most crimp terminal fail because of flexing at the crimp causing the copper stands to fracture; this method reduces the flexing (and makes them more watertight too).

I get all my auto-electrical stuff from here. Used them for years - always been excellent.

All the electronic components I ever need I get from here. We use this supplier at work! ;)

Black Dog 05-02-13 20:11

Right, thanks :)

It was the red end and yellow sleeve that confused me. I use VWP stuff and heat-shrink too, but mine never seem to look as neat as that. Nice work.

Hey mate, that looks great. Good job. Looks like a fiddly task but nice result.

Interesting to see how scuff resistent it is and whether it starts to bubble over time. Keep us posted!

You've done a lot of cool things to your bike. Got a photo of that adjustable side stand?

Thank you for comment. I will let you know how resistant they will be...

Here you are photo of adjustable side stand. It's little bit rust after two years with poor paint. It's made because I use XTX wheels in summer, XTR wheels in winter and adventure trips. Original side stand was little too long with XTX wheels. Side stand has been cut, then hard steel bolt and nut welded. It's longest position in picture.

Adjustable side stand

Thanks ejj for showing us your side stand. That's a great idea.
In my case I need to extend it because I've lifted my bike a couple of inches and she's on a real lean now with the standard stand.
Cheers... Dan

blew a few cob webs from the old girl and took her for spin around the twisties in fife direction. bloody freezing but well worth it as there's hardly anyone out on the roads.

Thrashed it and then thrashed it again.:massage[1]:

Ais

Did the AIS fix and went up the driveway a couple of times, to short a test to confirm the improvement on popping and backfiring in the exhaust but I think it better.

It's a commuter for me so the ride tomorrow will be the proof.

Ais

So I got too work and believe it has made quite a difference, it has reduced the kakling and booming on over run by a significant amount in frequiency and volume.

There is still some going on but I am happy with that 'character'.

It must be said that the pipes are twin Two Brothers off a Yammy 1300 XJR so they are great big bloody tubes and will not do much to damp that kind of noise. What I am getting now must be latent to the tune of the bike (Standard apart from pipes and AIS, for the moment).

Black Dog 18-03-13 23:45

Fitted a new DID chain and JT sprockets. Also took out the chain adjusters, cleaned up inside the swingarm and cleaned and greased the adjuster blocks. I stripped and repainted the adjuster plates, which were flaking and rusty. All torqued back up - just the plates to fit when the paint has dried, then adjust the chain and off we go. A nice afternoon to work outside for once!

maxwell123455 23-03-13 12:38

Rode over 100miles to get a boat back home for the weekend to find the main road to the boat was closed due to a 6 car pile up. Alternative route was closed due to snow. So turned round and rode back again...... did I mention this was all in gale force and snowy weather. Defrosted both bike and myself last night then up this morning to give her a good wash down and oil the chain due to Scotland's addiction to salt on the road

uberthumper 23-03-13 12:58

Finished (sort of*) the rebuild for my US trip, and took the bike for an MOT test in the snow:

Surely you can space the can too give you more room for the plate, and out of interest did you go to the MM from a stock system?.

There's no way I can space the can in a way to get enough room for the terribly large Belgian license plate :(
And yes, I did change the stock system to the MM one.

alpine100 06-05-13 23:56

Last week i installed on my XTR Kevs fork spacers & Kevs fuel mod with snorkel removed & DNA cover filter& K&N filter with airbox drilled, also heated grips wired to battery but will put it thru a relay when it arrives, ive put satnav bracket on too & will wire it thru the relay. As for anyone who has not got a Kev fuel mod, get one it pulls like a train now, easy to fit & a whole lot cheaper than a power commander i fitted to my Tenere, the fork spacers sorts the front out aswell, Kev if you read this, your a GOD!:ytiller::ytiller::ytiller::ytiller:

Thats interesting because I had to space my Akra's to make room for my tail tidy,I've looked at MM for some time as it cleans the looks of the bike up but if it's not possible to space it,it's not a viable option.

Fitted the fork spacers and new spark plug, blanked off the AIS and enjoyed the new ride!

also took some bits off.

also polished off the corroded coating on the clutch cover and enamelled in the logo.

Chalk Two 07-01-18 09:48

..I also noted that the supplied, new, top bolt that came with the Hagon shock is a tad short. I didn't see this at the time of fitting because of the airbox / bike being complete.

Hagon shock top bolt doesn't pass through the nyloc nut (60nm torque)

..not quite today but very recently, (whilst talking of shocks), fitted new Ohlins front springs and fresh oil.

Can't say the front end was any better but the rear Hagon made the bike a complete PITA on some light off road sections as it was too stiff and the bike bunny hopped everywhere over the smallest of imperfections in the road, but on tarmac it is a huge improvement. Hagon ask your weight before they send it out so it's 'dialled in' Mmmm?

Taipan 08-01-18 10:42

Hagon are a brilliant firm with superb customer service. Talk to them as they may need to revalve it for you?

Thanks Taipan. I'm being lazy really because I should just fiddle with the rebound and spring compression settings first. I'm more concerned about the short top bolt though. I might give them an email this week. Even when the bike's back together I'd be able to fit that top bolt relatively easily, so I won't have the 'project' on hold waiting for it. I guess it'll be a strengthened steel bolt rather just any old jobbie.

Chalk Two 15-05-18 20:31

did some welding practice....

.
I've always wanted a folding brake pedal so I bought a used gear lever from a Tenere and cut off the caged spring loaded bit, together with the steel from the gear lever, and welded the thicker gear lever metal (not the thin cage material), on to the brake arm.

It ended up being a little further out than the original so I cut the foot rubber shaft back and then drilled a hole through it to accept a split pin then cut down the rubber and slipped on a stainless steel 10mm washer to keep the rubber in place.

It's in the paint booth at the mo, to be fitted tomorrow.

If it snaps off due to my extremely amateur welds then I'll go back to the drawing board.

Now fitted
