Soft Luggage (Andy Strapz style)

Guys im looking for a set of Andy Straps Paniers

http://www.andystrapz.com/products-d...yId=22&Level=1

Can only find the Australian company but nothing for the UK. I think after taking into account import tax and shipping from Oz they wont be worth it. Anything similar in the UK or does anyone have a set for sale by any chance?

Cheers

Dan

Hi

For FWIW

You would be better with hard cases, I have done lots of trips in Europe and I used to have soft luggage. I would never use soft stuff again and certainly not for any kind of distance trip. Soft panniers are just about OK on a trip in good weather but if it turns nasty you will regret not buying proper hard luggage.

Everything got wet thru with any of the soft luggage that I have tried, even "waterproof ones". Also, they are a ball ache to fit and are generally a PITA.

Just my view but its based on many many tours of the continent.

Al.

As Skunkmoto says, Zenoverland do the AndyStrapz in the UK, another option would be Wolfman ones:

Or try Ortlieb: www.ortlieb.de , they got waterproof saddlebags. I've been using their rollbags for years now and they are really top quality and 100% waterproof!

I preffered the idea of hard luggage on the motorways but the cost is ridiculouse. I liked the idea of the soft luggage as i could get a good quality set for a reasoanble prcie and if the bike got dropped i wouldnt run the risk of bending or cracking any frames. But it looks like even softs need a panier racks to keep them stable at speed reducing their appeal. I did some digging and have found what looks to be a very reasonable hard luggage set up. Good size for what i want and a good price. They claim to be 100% water proof but even if they are not using dry bags as liners is no big deal. Any one tried these, general reviews on the net seem good:

Kappa K21 Monokey Panniers Stock 95

Kappa Pannier Rack Yamaha XT660 121

For the price they seem fantastic! 216 for the pair of 21lt paniers and frame. They wont see any off road as all the off roading i plan to do will be once the bike is stripped down in Italy.

or even Giant Loop, Adventure Spec do the Coyote and Great Basin saddlebags but they are not cheap compared to a couple of ortlieb rack packs.

Great choice, I did 2 tours on an earlier bike with exactly those panniers and have photos to prove it. They are remarkable value and will not leak even in a torrential downpour on the Paris ring road at 5 PM on a Friday night (I Know) These are going to serve you way better than soft luggage. Bit small at 21L as I recall but with 2 of them I was able to cope well enough. Quick to remove/replace. Just locate and click into position.

I even dealt mith motorbikes and parts when I bought mine a few years back and can say they offered top class service
Go for it,

In the end i went for the Kappa 21 system. Liked the idea of soft luggage but to really make it work well you still needed frames so it lost its financial appeal. The Kappa 21 system is perfect! The paniers are small but they are what i wanted and will do the job for me. They stick out a tiny bit past the bars but im talking 10-20mm each side so it still makes filtering easy. The paniers are quite thin plastic but for the price they are very good quality. The frames i was really surprised at, very very good quality and strong hard finish. They look far more expensive than the 120 price tag and were fitted in about 45mins. Easy to do but a little tricky as my bike lives in my hall way so not much space. The bike is pretty much ready now except for a new set of Distanzias which ive yet to buy. Here are some pictures:

Took it for a shake down ride today and didnt even notice the paniers. WIll being doing a trip to North Wales and West Wales to try it out loaded and then the big one in August.
