Soft Luggage (Andy Strapz style)
Guys im looking for a set of Andy Straps Paniers
http://www.andystrapz.com/products-d...yId=22&Level=1 Can only find the Australian company but nothing for the UK. I think after taking into account import tax and shipping from Oz they wont be worth it. Anything similar in the UK or does anyone have a set for sale by any chance? Cheers Dan |

Hi
For FWIW You would be better with hard cases, I have done lots of trips in Europe and I used to have soft luggage. I would never use soft stuff again and certainly not for any kind of distance trip. Soft panniers are just about OK on a trip in good weather but if it turns nasty you will regret not buying proper hard luggage. Everything got wet thru with any of the soft luggage that I have tried, even "waterproof ones". Also, they are a ball ache to fit and are generally a PITA. Just my view but its based on many many tours of the continent. Al. Last edited by Ilkleyal; 03-02-11 at 20:41. |

As Skunkmoto says, Zenoverland do the AndyStrapz in the UK, another option would be Wolfman ones:

Or try Ortlieb:
www.ortlieb.de , they got waterproof saddlebags. I've been using their rollbags for years now and they are really top quality and 100% waterproof!

I preffered the idea of hard luggage on the motorways but the cost is ridiculouse. I liked the idea of the soft luggage as i could get a good quality set for a reasoanble prcie and if the bike got dropped i wouldnt run the risk of bending or cracking any frames. But it looks like even softs need a panier racks to keep them stable at speed reducing their appeal. I did some digging and have found what looks to be a very reasonable hard luggage set up. Good size for what i want and a good price. They claim to be 100% water proof but even if they are not using dry bags as liners is no big deal.
Any one tried these, general reviews on the net seem good:
Kappa K21 Monokey Panniers Stock 95 http://www.motorbikesandparts.co.uk/kappa-k21-monokey-panniers-stock-p-9059.html Kappa Pannier Rack Yamaha XT660 121 http://www.motorbikesandparts.co.uk/kappa-pannier-rack-yamaha-xt660-rx-200406-p-23928.html For the price they seem fantastic! 216 for the pair of 21lt paniers and frame. They wont see any off road as all the off roading i plan to do will be once the bike is stripped down in Italy. |

Great choice, I did 2 tours on an earlier bike with exactly those panniers and have photos to prove it. They are remarkable value and will not leak even in a torrential downpour on the Paris ring road at 5 PM on a Friday night (I Know) These are going to serve you way better than soft luggage. Bit small at 21L as I recall but with 2 of them I was able to cope well enough. Quick to remove/replace. Just locate and click into position. I even dealt mith motorbikes and parts when I bought mine a few years back and can say they offered top class service Go for it, |
