My Tenere got its panniers today, they fit like a glove! Greetz, Hans.
|
Didn't know what to do this morning, so I went riding in my backyard and shot a few pic's.

You've not had much experience in this field? I had loads of fun in hundreds of fields........
That's body armour dude, off roaders wear it when the going gets rough. It keeps all the soft delicate bits it tip-top condition. The kit that the girls are wearing is actually designed for wenches,:downtown: with plenty of room for their nunga-nungas.:love-smiley-085: Timpo. |
Yes mate but I had never seen those female bionic-woman-looking breast plates like that before in my life. :deathmetal[1]: they're cool though as long as they keep their knockers safe, they get my vote. :D :D

Seems like you had a great day there Timpo! I say it again: The mud really becomes the Tenere...
EDIT: What kind of tyres are you using? |

European Tour 2008
Thought I'd put a few pics here of the Tenere in various places around Europe in September 2008:
http://www.smokingtailpipes.com/Gallery/P8290050.JPG This would be Denmark, just south of Odense, http://www.smokingtailpipes.com/Gallery/P8300060.JPG and one of many campsites, this time in Sweden about 70kms north of Jonkoping, http://www.smokingtailpipes.com/Gallery/P9020075.JPG Loaded and ready to go, this time in Finland about 20Kms south of the Arctic Circle - you can still see the frost on the bike. It was a bl00dy cold ride south that day! http://www.smokingtailpipes.com/Gallery/P9020079.JPG Finland has some quite spectacular lakes, but one looks just like another after a while! http://www.smokingtailpipes.com/Gallery/P9060089.JPG Kostnice, just outside Prague. I've some film of the inside that I'll get on-line when I get some time. The inside of the church is decorated with the bones of 30,000 dead people - it's a bizzar place, well worth a visit if you're within a couple of hundred km's. http://www.smokingtailpipes.com/Gallery/P9100106.JPG The mountains of Northern Greece, I took the mountain road from Thessaloniki to Igoumenitsa, this road was way better than anything I've found in the Pyrenees or the Alps. Superb road, if a little slippy at times! http://www.smokingtailpipes.com/Gallery/P9130117.JPG This was KaTEy at the end of my challenge, I was 1200 miles from Amsterdam and had just 26 hours to get there before the ferry left! http://www.smokingtailpipes.com/Gallery/P9130118.JPG This is what I looked like after 18 days in the saddle, you can see the look in my eyes at the prospect of 26 hours riding..... |
twin?
Some nice pics there! However, the thing that has me laughing is that you have
the same colour of bike as me and the same Hein Gericke suit!! Could be confusing if we're ever in the same place together... :icon_confused:
|
Quote:
What's really funny, I've had the suit for a year now, my wife still thinks I got the bike to match the suit....... |

Well, didn't you? I know I did, I bought mine to wear on my Ulysses...! It just wouldn't have looked as good on a white or black Tenere though, it had to be desert khaki! :icon_lol: I wonder, does anyone else out there have this bike / suit combination? |
Nice piccies mate, very jealous
and any suit bike combo is ok with me. You should see mine, blue bike, brown dirt, black hein gericke suit oh and some more dirt |
Nice pics

Darren,
Glad to see you made it all the way through. Pity we didn't get chance to meet up in Portugal. How did you got on with the GPS mounted above the clocks? Was it affected by vibration? Nick. |
Quote:
It's true, I really thought about buying a khaki tenere to match the suit, but I liked the white too much. |
Quote:
It vibrates like crazy, so I put a Touratech mount in between and now it just bounces a bit at low rev's but it's fine at higher revs. If I was doing it again I'd put it in the RAM mount on the bars - then again, the same RAM mount with the Camcorder on destroyed the camcorder, I was gutted to find out a load of footage with me riding was useless!! |
top box
Can anyone tell me if that Tenere top-box will fit a tour x?
Thanks |

can you post a pic of that touratech-thing on the gpsbar thx |

http://www.smokingtailpipes.com/Gallery/PA090151.JPG The alu plate connecting the GPS mount to the GPS bar is a one I made, as there isn't enough room to fit the GPS to the bar as the screen is in the way - don't quite know what Mr Yamaha was thinking there...... http://www.smokingtailpipes.com/Gallery/PA090153.JPG |
Nice work on that alu plate GasUpLetsGo. I agreed. I first tried mine (
http://www.touratech.com/shops/001/p...oducts_id=1860) on the same spot and wondered too what Mr. Yamaha was thinking. Since I am not as skilled as you are, and since I have a lockable mount and I know no matter what I do the windscreen would be in the way with the key to the lock, so I now mount the bracket on the cross bar above the handlebar.

Summer of Love -08
- A summary http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/5937/coldkj2.jpg Just took this lousy pic when I parked the bike outside after getting home from work. It hit me that this is probably the end of this season. We had snow this morning that melted during the day, but the weather forecast tells me winter is coming. Was half way to work when I realized the pavement wasn't wet, it was frozen hehe. Guess most of you have many weeks left but up here summers are short, too short. Gonna wash the bike (for the first time since I bought it) during the weekend and store it in the basement at work. :icon_frown: This summer has sort of evolved round this bike. It's a crazy feeling, the bike seems to be tailored to me exclusively. Whatever I want to do the bike follows without hesitations. Anyone else who felt this? A funny thing is that I've had so many plans on mods for the bike and I have piles of stuff at home that is waiting to get mounted, but all the quality time I've had with the bike has been spent riding it, because it's so darn fun, so it's still practically in its original shape. =) The whole thing started in June when I took the train down to the south of Sweden and picked up my scratch free brand new Tener. I have never bought anything brand new before so it was in itself a sensation for me. Was so happy that I was worried I could cause a traffic accident when I loaded it up for the first time in the dealers backyard: http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/1232/newca9.jpg Toured around in the south of Sweden for a week, did the 1000km service and headed the 1400km back home. Only incident was a flat tire, the bikes behaviour was flawless and I loved every kilometer of it. When I came home I was hooked, took long trips to different places for the pure fun of riding. Luckily some of my riding companions got XT's so we we could go places where the crotch rockets couldn't follow. http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/3/restaw1.jpg Me and a female friend tried some 2-up touring too, very pleasant: :) : http://img359.imageshack.us/img359/1243/pict2011nz2.jpg Then something happened: I got bit by the dirt bug. Pavement turned into boring transportation between the fun stuff, gravel. http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/5814/graveleb7.jpg I'm not a experienced offroader at all, but the Tener taught me how fun it can be. I replaced the tourance tires with knobbies and went into the wild. At first I explored nice little forest routes close to home, like this: http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/2834/stig3lt3.jpg Then I experienced the long sand routes we have up here: http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/3831/sanddj9.jpg And I was hooked for life. Have had more accidents that I can count and really tested the durability of the bike but I just want more. Went on some offroad conventions and camped out in the forest, got thrown off in a painful highsider somewhere in the desert up by the arctic circle, got some road rash when a car ran a red light right in front of me and a bird almost knocked me out of the saddle when we were out cruising in the midnight sun. The bike is still new but covered in dents and scratches, but in short; best summer ever! =) Have made 14000km this summer and I can't repeat enough how happy I am with the bike. It's funny that it's so hard to explain why this bike rox to the not enlightened: "is it better offroad then lets say a KTM?" - "no" "is it fast?" - "Ehm, no" "is it a good stunt bike, wheelies and jumps you know?" - "no" "can you load it up like in Wrath of the Grapes and tour around the world?" - "depends on how masochistic you are.." "sooo.. whats good about it?" - "it kicks ass!!" :D So sorry for the lengthy post, but now when the summer has come to an end I just want to say that I really look forward to the next one when the snow leaves in 6 months, but maybe I get me some spikes on the tires if the abstinence gets too rough. =) //Molgan http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/4...jackingqy0.jpg |
Excellent report Molgan - your enthusiasm and delight with the bike shine through in an otherwise dull world. I have the R version of the bike and it fulfills all my needs both on the mainly tarmac in the UK and the mainly dry river-bed/goat tracks and dirt roads in southern Spain. Top notch bike - and yours is a Top-notch description of it. :thumbsup[1]:
|
Hi Molgan, I enjoyed your summer summary, and nice pics! I was also in Sweden couple weeks ago, riding down from Norway. Yup, I tasted winter was coming - my first day in Sweden was 6 degree celsius comparing to 12 in Nordkapp. After having spent 3 days in Stockholm, I needed to race back to Germany to avoid the chill. Enjoy modifying your bike while you are not riding.

Very nice report, real summer of love ;)

But the 31 liter you mension which is certainly bigger then the yam ones, makes only 1 litre diffirence, since the yam panniers are 30 litre. If i buy the metal mule panniers tot replace my yam panniers, i would take the 38 litre version. Here some pics of my 1 week old tenere: http://picasaweb.google.com/bonimacx/BoniSYamahaTenere# |
Woo-hoo! Picked up my new tenere yesterday. Done about 60 miles so far and I'm really impressed with everything - it's so smooth, the suspension is superb, the engine is really punchy low-mid, and the screen keeps the wind away. Can't wait to take it out again.

she is gorgeous, proper colour too!
Well done. |
Cheers! Yeah, I'm loving the way she looks too. For the first time in a while I'm looking forward to the Monday morning commute!
Next step, ask family members for accessories for xmas... |

Congrats, Andy! Hold on to it, the khaki and the white Tenere's are only made this year(gonna be collector's items?), next year blue, red and black. I know what ya mean, I got mine in june and covered 8000km 'till today and I always want to go for another ride(even when I just came back from a ride!)! It's an awesome piece of machinerie! Look on this here site for all kinds of parts&accessories, reviews and such. ENJOY!! Greetz, Hans.
|
@Andy: I see you got the Michelin Sirac as first original tires, do you like them? Most new Tenere's are delivered with Metzeler Tourance tires, it's the first one I see with Sirac's. I'm happy with my Tourance's, I also had them on my former bike, a XT600E, and got high mileage with them and good grip wet&dry. Greetz, Hans.

@Dallas: Cheers mate! My last bike (03 Transalp) had tourances fitted to them, which were really good in all conditions. Compared to each other I haven't seen a major difference tbh, but I would say they performed really well in the wet, so yeah, happy with the siracs.
@josephau: not forgetting bonfire night, eid ul adha and hanukkah, that covers me for bash plate, panniers and heated grips... Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! |
