Ah.... long story Tanya.... I started in this trade in 1989 as a ship operator, in an office running a fleet of car carrier and multipurpose ships, eventually 2 years ago the previous port captain resigned and they asked me if I would be up for the challenge. I gave it a try and took position in May 30th 2005

Wow...there's quite a mix of trades and skills here...
I'm a Chartered Engineer, currently working in Telecoms (for Vodafone) where I develop SMS. Can be a lot of fun, playing with technology and abusing the network but also super stressful at times when the service goes wrong and we start loosing my annual salary every couple of minutes. :108: |
Profession? Lion taming...:toothy3: but there's no money in it so I'm forced to lecture in an Art College to fund my bike habit.

I work for an independent record company based in Glasgow. Take care of manufacturing and all distribution outside of the UK.
Just back from industry get together in Berlin called Popkomm. Nice to put faces to names after years of phone calls & emails. On the way back to airport in Berlin clocked a KTM 990SM joining a motorway on a slip road at an angle I wouldnt have considered. Will endeavour to lean a bit more. |
Had a varied career:
Bus Conductor - told the Job Centre I wanted to travel and meet people, Chartered Town Planner - Thatcher Govt stopped all that, British Rail Station Manager - ended up SM London Waterloo, Lambeth Social Services running their transport - lunatics taken over asylum Cranfield Institute for a year studying Logistics - got the anorak Dixons Group as their Operations Manager - got megalomania Equitable Life in sales then Group Pensions - happy until closed in 2000 HBOS as Area Manager until 2004 - retired at 49 avoiding death by paper. Now building own house see www.timval.com when not riding bikes to exotic places. It's been fun, particularly the last bit. |
Does anyone else think that this shows a remarkable resemblance to a forum member?
Is that forum member moonlighting as a character actor? Would those be new boot(ee)s being knitted? |

may well want to pick your brains on this at some point, could you send me your details so that I can give you a call some time about it. |
I work in Technical Sales at a Flavour House.
Which basically means that I do the same job as Mr Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I am the person that works out how to make food taste good and ensure that it is safe to eat. I help marketing people make their dreams come true. I've worked on Noodle texture, exploding tea bombs, chocolate soup, bacon flavour porridge, strange stuff that never gets launched but amuses food manufactures in meetings. The down side.... I've fallen into vats of soy sauce, dug out ton batched of dough that has set solid in the mixing drum, spent night shifts making coloured noodles that never got launched, eaten many a disgusting formulation and burnt my tongue regularly, oh and had chilli in my eye once. |
