I had been working for 7 years on a containers vessels as electronics engineer. Extremly interesting job as I was able to be in touch with latest technology in automation and marine communication systems. But I had to quit due other circumstances and for last 2 years I'm working in my hometown for a small el. company. It can be boring and very interesting at the same time but here I haven't got a big choice to make. Still thinking to go back to sea for a next 2 or 3 years...

I help companies sell useless cr@p to people that can neither afford the products nor need them. The recruitment process was basically a mix of assessing low moral ideals, willingness to betray my own sensibilities and the selling of my soul to some red guy in a suit that sits on the 7th floor. On a day to day level, people in suits make un-important and often wrong decisions on stuff they know very little about whilst I oblige diligently until our product looks nothing like it was intended and is about half as good as it's potential.
I work in marketing. I only do it so I can afford the unleaded. |
When i was about 18 i had bought a car and needed to make a bit of money so went across the road from where i then lived to my mates dads tube manipulation factory and asked for a job for a couple of weeks. 17/18 years later virtually running the place it was bought and moved to Halesowen and we were offered jobs or redundancy.
I had always wanted to set up on my own but never had the balls to give up a fairly well paid job to try it but this gave me a kick up the arse to do it. So "bought" some machines off them and moved 100 or so yards down the road to a small unit bending/flaring and manipulating pipes and tubes 2 and a bit years later still here, not making a fortune yet but i get to do whatever i want and i enjoy it (sometimes) "This time next year Rodney" www.mandmtubeform.co.uk |
My job title is Asset Controller. I work at a specialist tool hire company which supplies equipment to the UK rail maintenance contractors.
I basically spend most of my time buying in new equipment spending loads of money LOL, setting it up on our fleet management system, ensure all the servicing/maintenance schedules are adopted by our maintenance staff (I was in the workshop for 12 years before my current role). We have loads of regulations we need to ensure we follow which can be a pain. Still love it after 18 years at the same company. |
