Well two things.

1. Not bike related, bought myself an Iphone4, just have to get a smaller sim card now. Means i should be able to take photos and uplated them alot quicker now!!!

2. Put a verbal agreement down with another forum member for a Yamaha Tenere......so you's will have to put up with me for another while longer!!!:icon_rr:

Once you've got your iPhone up and running with the simcard, download a free app called Dropbox, that way you can upload any iPhone pics into that "online" space and use the link provided to post pics in the forum same as you would with photobucket.com

If you prefer photobucket the same thing can be done with a photobucket free app on your iPhone.

Print and stick on screen but they keep moving and getting in the way of my other posts!!!!

Im a photobucket person really.

Ta captmoto will do, i plan on doing some mega photo up loads once i get my i phone.

just washed both tiger n tenere n sprayed up with wd40 as they are living under bike covers. both came up well then had to do a few wheelies in car park for fun!!!

duibhceK 28-10-12 22:12

quite a bit actually:
- washed of the last mud and chalk from the weekend in France
- installed steel braided brake hoses
- switched back to road tyres
- re-wired GPS to turn of with the key
- fresh oil and filter
- checked valve clearances, adjusted clearance of out valves
- installed neoprene fork socks

still need to install a new chain and sprockets.

you got any piccies or links to the neoprene fork guards??

feck 29-10-12 21:03

Been busy on the x as I have hit the big bad 10k mark.
fitted the following :

heated grips (nice!)
kev`s old o2 mod
new PC map built for O2eliminator and other mods
filters cleaned and re oiled
oil change to 10w 40 syn (Castrol Power 1 Racing)
general weight shedding exercises (no more sidestand... )

These O2 eliminators of Kev`s are worth their weight in gold, I was pretty happy and content with the way the XT was running on the CO mod with Akra`s and DNA 1+2. After installing the O2 mod and remapping the PC, the difference is astounding, the bike is perfect, no more hunting for 'efficient' AF ratios and as a result no more surging and I think a much crisper throttle response.

Does anyone know if I should be doing valve clearances now for safety or wait till 12k?

How do you find that WD40 on the plastics and paint work? Haven't tried it myself but folks over here reckon it's to strong.

SimonRoma 07-11-12 11:22

I just fitted the famous Kev mod to my XT660X and it was really dead easy and must have taken me about 15 minutes tops. I went for a quick ride and it seems MUCH smoother but I must ride for a few days and I will then let you know, it seems brilliant THANKS KEV!!!!

I have been using Steel Silicone spary for over a decade, every time I wash my bike I spary the whole bike then wipe it down, it keeps my bike like new.

Steel Brand Silicone Spray
Eliminate annoying squeaks, sticking and corrosion with this all-purpose spray-on lubricant and release agent. Steel Brand SBL Series Silicone Spray leaves no greasy film, and is not affected by water or oil, and will not freeze or melt.

http://www.carcareshop.com.au/product/consumables/silicones-adhesives/steele-s-silicone-spray-heavy-duty-workshop-qualit

I buy it by the box which works out quite a bit cheaper, my supplier can ship anywhere in Oz.

Tomorrow is Orange Barkbusters to complement my new plastics. Will post pic when done.

wd40 on the tank and plastics works well and with a wee wipe after makes them shine and also protects and chips from turning to o rusty spots. just be careful as wd40 will take the glue off stickers so go easy on stickers if not just a spray on a towel and wipe over.

maxwell123455 11-11-12 17:41

took front wheel off, cleaned down front brakes and pushed pistons in and out and cleaned off gunch. greased spindle and bolts to brake calipers all were supper dry.

took rear wheel off, cleaned brake slider on swing arm, cleaned all around spindle and greased. re packed Cush drives. took dog bones off and greased rollers for rear suspension. put all back together.

filled up with fuel, just with grandad in hospital as he's no well, but got a 150mile ride home after getting boat back to Scotland. lets hope she rolls a bit better now!

Not very happy the way the EGO B/Bs mounted on the clutch side. Clutch cable hard up against mounting clamp. Looks like I'll have to buy another bit.
Anyone else had any trouble mounting these two stock bars?

boneman 12-11-12 11:20

Bar risers & clutch cable...

I fitted 30mm SW Motec risers (not happy with ergs standing) to the already higher & wider Renthal Jimmy Button bars. However, clutch cable pulled tight in the straight ahead position & stupidly tight when turning.

I called the motorbike shop today & they told me they sell made up clutch cables that I could cut to length & fit. Is that right?

Cheers,

Boneman

I have a dumb question which may well have been asked and answered many times in which case I apologise.

I have an XT660X and I love it and I ride it in all weathers, fortunately here we have only a month or two of bad weather per year but mainly just rain and cool temperatures, nothing drastic, although we had a week of snow last year and when I tried I fell off the XT after about 5 metres!!!

My idea would be to have two sets of wheel and tyres so that I could run the XT as a road bike with the standard road 17inch wheels for most of the year, and then switch over to the winter set with semi knobblies on 21/18 wheels off the XT660R.

When I asked my Yamaha dealer he mumbled something about the forks not being the same so you cannot swop the wheels between the R and the X. Ok, but is there a way to run two sets of wheels/tyres?????

Thanks gang!!! Simon

Landton 12-11-12 12:32

Yes you can put a 17" in front of your R but you have to buy a 17" rim and spockes to fit your orig front hub.

SimonRoma 12-11-12 14:53

Thanks Landton but I have an X.....

I went down this road with my R and from memory there are a few issues.
The R & the X run different offsets which means brake caliper issues etc, most likely requiring some customised spacers. Kev can give you the low down. What about running another set of tyres on the X rims? There are some fairly aggressive 17" front tyres out there now.

SimonRoma 13-11-12 11:50

Thanks Acole, and I have been chatting to my friendly Yam main dealers and they confirm your point about the offset, so it rather sounds that Yamaha designed the 2 bikes to be completely non interchangeable!!! So the tyre route may be the only practical way to go!!

tomhalsall1991 13-11-12 18:14

What did i do?

Dropped it! like a D**khead! left it on its side stand whilst running, on a very slight down hill slope, must not have been on its side stand properly and whilst my back was turned it dropped! I was fuming. Damage could have been worse, It snapped the left mirror off just below where it screws in, so should be able to get a new mount from the scrapyard, and scratched my left handguard badly, but i suppose thats why its there!

tomorrow will be spent fixing it and polishing like F**k to get rid of scratches, or as near as possible!

Yep, done the same thing but was lucky enough to catch it before it went to far. The stand is partially to blame IMO. It doesn't seem to have much forward angle.

I'm pretty sure it is possible. I spoke to Kev about it. From memory you just need to have some spacers made up and then play with the spoke lacing to give you the right offset. I would definaty talk to Kev if your serious about doing it.

Kev 14-11-12 11:51

Might help you out, all this type of info stored in the mod section.

Barkbusters

Finally got the B/Busters on and sorted. Little bit of a hassle actually. I found using the Spare part B54 helped with clearance around cables etc and I ended up using one on each side. Also added a couple of amber reflectors for side on visibility.

Yes, still heading south. Arrive end of Feb and will be there two weeks. Basing ourselves in Hanmer and will move south from there after a few days.

Looks good mate...
I agree, it is a hassle making everthing fit around b/busters and keeping them at the correct height/angle - especially if you've got the hangers tilted forward. Anyway, you got it done so you won't need those heated grips now...

Sorry, definitely keeping the heated grips, they work a treat.

duibhceK 24-11-12 18:51

Installed new sprockets (JT) and chain (DID) today. First time I did it on the Ten with this tool from Rothewald:
http://cdn7.louis.de/shop/img250/100...10_FR03_13.JPG

works a treat! :023:
The largest spanner I had was only a 24mm and the tool requires a 27mm so I did have to pop out a sec to the shop to get one.

Parkcomn 24-11-12 22:55

Replaced the side stand spring with a bungee chord.

Not cause I wanted to - but the spring got ripped off and lost and I needed to get home.

bodge job I like it

I charged the battery up as my bike cover blew off at work and some how switched on the heated grips which I currently have wired straight to the battery. about 8hrs of charging and the bike fired up with the nice single mtc can with no baffle sound, few guys from work hadn't a clue what the sound was till they saw me messing round with bike!!!

Markymark 29-11-12 17:37

fitted tutoro chain oiler and left it on.

Doh!

maxwell123455 16-12-12 16:43

took it for a wee run from Edinburgh to north Berwick via ever coastal road I could find. got completely lost on way back through Edinburgh. Finally got back to flat then washed the bike off all that lovely salt

Manned-up the Tenere Horn

Had to use my horn in anger for the first time in four years the other day and realised just how :gay: it is. So decided I should do something about it…

Found a 7 low tone snail horn (better protected from spray and mud) and fitted it to the existing mount.

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a.../sIMG_2097.jpg

Moved the OE (high tone) horn to under the expansion tank. Note: No need for a Touratech horn re-locator, the OE horn bolts straight on to the lower tank mount using the supplied flat bracket you get with any replacement horn (fits perfectly and points sideways rather than down like the TT effort).

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a.../sIMG_2095.jpg

Popped a fused relay in (as we’re now drawing 12A) hidden behind the front lower section of the grey plastic tank protector (which is bone dry and a good place for such things when space under the seat starts getting short).

http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/a.../sIMG_2096.jpg

Result. I now have a much more masculine two tone horn, all for less than a tenner!
