there was talk at some stage about getting some poly cush bushes made up, i wonder if anyone ever had any joy with them...

rtwpaul 14-04-12 23:05

i read that somewhere as well???

...but seeing i am in the states i guess i will miss out if they are made, but i am in a very industrial area right now so maybe i could get some made where i am or somewhere else, do you remember exactly what they were made from?

obviously some type of polyurathane but which one?

if you know let me know

thanks

paul

rtwpaul 14-04-12 23:15

i did find this place http://www.universalurethane.com/cus...FQXqnAodCWZMiA

i'll give them a call next week and see what the minimum quantity order is and an estimate of how much

good thing is i am working in a reverse machining shop right now so i can do that part for free and if need be machine the mold

so what i need to know is how many people are interested and if someone would be willing to purchase a large quantity if we have to buy a large quantity and be our own personal supplier, i would do this but being on a RTW ride i can't, also living in the states would make individual shipping too expensive...CaptMoto any suggestions?

Hunday in South Africa has made some, several people showed an interest in buying, but he hasn't been around the forum since.

The thing about urethane is it comes in many guises. As far as I understand, there is a hardness rating for polyurethane which translates as an 'A' system. They basically stick a needle into a piece of PU and the machine tells them how much pressure/force it has exerted to pierce the item. The pressure reading translates to the 'A' rating. As far as skateboard wheels go, 95A is quite soft where as 101A is hard, bear in mind though with a skateboard, any shock transferred through the wheels is going to be amplified by the 7 layers of ply and ali trucks under your feet. I guess the chain/sprockets set up of bikes will be similair but I don`t really know. Sooooo, if we can pull something like this off, which IMO will be a good mod, we need to find out about what the optimum hardness/memory factor will be for the PU.
Here`s to hoping and good call paul :D

rtwpaul 14-04-12 23:25

let me see if i can get a price and we can go from there, really it would be better if someone bought a quantity and became a supplier for us,

it seems to be a big failing on the bike

....mine have 40,000 miles on them right now :wtfk:

Yamaha South Africa said it's best to stay with their rubbers
A harder compound can damage the gearbox apparently
Maybe it's just that they can get their rubbers to be sold ever so often

Yeah, they would say that!

feck 14-04-12 23:30

I will have a word with my boys at the franchise tomorrow and see what they think. Also it is their anniversary year this year and they are having a bigass open day. One of the more famous RTW dudes will be there doing the whole talk thing. I shall find out details and post up a thread for those who are interested. The whole shebang is in June and located in High Wycombe.

rtwpaul 14-04-12 23:33

...also keep in mind here that's a good comment from a dealer so it creates consistent income, small but consistent... polyurethane can be made in the same density as rubber but it is more durable (longer life) if you read what FECK said above, he is right it comes down to density.

by contacting polyurethane experts i would think they have a better view from an engineering point over a dealerships "opinion"

feck 14-04-12 23:34

lol.... tongue in cheek?

exactly, think of all the bikes ever built that do not run a cush drive, what is on the Talon hub that OTR sell for the XTZ

Petenz 25-04-12 01:43

Sub frame

I finally got the sub frame finished and on "apart from getting the correct bolts"
Its to mount a endruo side car to..
The bike will still beable to lean in the corners &
the car can move up/down over bumps with out
effecting the bike as much as a ridged car..
the car will also beable to steer into the corners
as the bike leans...

Yes it is closer than with the standard pipes....
I want to put a eliminator in.... But the guy that
makes the good ones no longer makes them:076:

Since playing with different size spockets I've been concerned, not about correct speed readings really, but about the falsely increased odometer reading.

Fitted a Speedo Healer.

Very easy/quick to install and set up:
Tank off, left panel off, unplug, plug, plug, poke, poke, poke, tank on panel on, done.
The online calculator does the maths. http://www.healtech-electronics.com/...culator_en.swf

My, so very small as well, online photos make it look bigger than it is.

More piccies when you get the side car rig on.

Dont know what it is but i just love the look of side cars

mrfijjitt 28-04-12 15:22

Calibrated Speedo Healer, was almost 10% off with a 46tooth rear srocket.
Fitted 30mm handlebar risers. Cables reach, just.

Grim Reaper 28-04-12 20:43

My wind deflectors for the hand guards arrived the other day so I fitted them. Just hope they work.

Rybenuk 01-05-12 22:30

Modified Cross Bar

Spent most of Sunday finishing fixing my modified cross bar (had to reduce the length due to fitting KTM handguards)..All in all it looks pretty good and hard to distinguish which end is which :)

For anyone thats thinking of doing the same, I can confirm that the centre is hollow.

Cut end:

Shaped End:

Lots of sanding and filing :)

I rode my bike over a brick (felt like a brick) at about 45mph.
Totally wasn't ready and didn't see the object, that hurts, lol. Nearly an 'off'.
Hole in back tyre, ok to ride home (depending how sensible you are), but common sense says your going no further. Can see broken metal and tyre bulges nicely at the side :(

So this week I'll be fitting a new tyre,. Still was in two minds as to whether or not I was going to put a new one on before the lakes. Made my mind up for me.

The back rim got scratches on the outer section from repairing a flat
So, I sanded off the paint on the outer part with a fine sand paper and then polished it with steel wool
It came out quite nicely and looks smart

Chekamus 06-05-12 21:09

looks good, good idea for getting rid of the scratches

Now all you need to do it spray or paint it with some laquar to stop it from corroding

SimonRoma 07-05-12 12:01

Fitted a screen from Pyramid Plastics (thanks Ben) and wow it look and works great!! And then fitted a Fenda Extenda and will try it when it rains, but looks and fits great. And just fitting my fork mod bits from Kev so will report when I have tried it. Fun fun fun!!!

Petenz 07-05-12 12:32

Not a lot really...
Tacked the bottom sidecar frame togeather...
This units totaly diffrent to other sidecars in
that you sit on it like a bike.. there will be
a WR450 seat & rear guard over the wheel..
The bike will still beable to lean in the corner's
as the bike leans the car steers in the direction
of the corner... that is acheived by haveing the
front side car mount higher than the rear... So the
front mount has a longer arc radius .. pushing or
pulling the front of the car over more than the rear...

Replaced the bottom bearing. 33K black and crunchy.

Managed to remove everything with bike on rear axle stand and propped up on side-stand and gear case.

jimmysimpson 21-05-12 22:25

Fitted and tested a rear Mitas E09. Sweet tyre. No drama on tarmac and stable on dry trails. Mileage is the watchword.

duibhceK 26-05-12 20:12

over the past 2 weeks:
- installed Guard-It bash plate
- installed SW-Motech center stand
- replaced brake pads front+rear
- installed foam air filter and cut down the snorkel (I still had the one from my previous Ten as a spare)
- changed spark plug
- changed oil+filter
- fitted the rims with road tyres (scorpion trail)

So we should all good to go for our trip across the channel starting next Saturday. Spending a week in Wales then riding through the peak district to the lake district, the acrossto the Yorkshire Dales and on to the North York Moors. Grabbing the Ferry back to Belgium after some 2 weeks of riding.

tomhalsall1991 26-05-12 22:23

Very Nice !!!

Had my forks done and it changed the handling of the bike so much, but after you get the front working better you will notice how bad the rear shock is.
