Yamaha in the end

I looked at various options for my needs:
protection from mud & gravel our considerate farmer spray on the tarmac
protection from grit that is ankle deep in winter months
protection from mud & flying stones when light green laning

touratech & equivalent: too expensive, bulky, ugly looking & OTT for my needs
Yamaha: goes well with the look of the bike, wide enough to protect the pump, well designed & engineered & well prices.
It won't protect the engine as well if you hit a rock, but I don't intend to do that anyway

here's my DIY solution:

it works fine for me, i used rubber grommets to avoid the noise.

look very nice pal

I must say look wise, I much prefer it to the non Yamaha products. It is not too loud.
You must be very resourceful to have designed & made it yourself. Very impressed.
I had to buy something off the shelf.
All the fixing bolts on Yamaha unit are through thick rubber spacer/ washer which I guess is to dampen vibration. There is also a heavy duty adaptor which fits to where a center stand would be and the guard is attached to this plate

I went for the Touratech small. It was easy to fit once you organise the bolts to see what goes where (the instructions were in German only). It's really well made and looks great!
