Hi Guy's, Now broke down three/four times now with a similar problem, (regulator / battery, no charge) :097:dealers have been brill, but it seams mine is the only one with probs out of 7/8 sold in the last year! not good for a bike with less than 6000mles and under a year old :119:, so I may change it ( other half’s not happy taking it to Scotland on hols and breaking down miles from anywhere’s, with no mobile reception!!) I have a loan xj6 at the moment, I realy love to ten but this is not good for yam or my state of mind:sad11:Sorry guy's

Sorry to hear of your problems. Has your dealer fitted a new loom and regulator / rectifier?

Hi Doug, the reg/rec has been replaced as has the battery, the wiring loom connectors to /from the reg has been done and totaly sealed ......:angry9: the display disapeared the ecu gave 45/46 error codes = low voltage etc after a while engine died (just got to the dealers yard!) left it in discust ..not happy, dealer offered me a new divvy for 500 exchange otr:confused5: don't know what to do now, Hummmmm

Might it be a stator rather then regulator/rectifier problem? Have they checked the output from the generator and through the loom prior to the reg/rec?

It really shouldn't be a recurring problem once it is fixed correctly.

Hi Jmo, I don't know yet, I'm going to see them tomorrow to see what's happening:120: I'll be asking the question!

The question I would be asking is, why haven't you fixed it.....

I agree with Jenny, my thoughts are that the mechanic hasn't solved the problem, just fixed some of the symptoms.

...this suggests to me that they don't really know what to do themselves and think that the above solution is the easiest way out. I know "your" dealer quite well! :eusa_wall:

To me the mechanic has not found the problem, he needs to look further into the charging system. Let one of the senior mechanic's ride your bike home for a week to check the charging & amp draw, they will soon fix it if they have to walk home.

Hi Guy's n gall ;-) Thanks for all your input, i have to admit that I asked for the divvy quote as i was so P*$ed off and i had a divvy before year or so ago and liked it, so I asked the question:tongue3:, just phoned the dealer workshop spoke to the Manager (Adie), he informed me that he thinks the reg/rec and loom is causing the probs :break: Hummmm this is under warantee but is it likely to happen again once out????? and what are Yamaha doing about this, it must be costing them a fortune:disgust:, still may go with the the Divvy, as least the otherhalf can get her leg over it:-D :091:  keep you informed........

But they changed the reg/rec, loom connectors and the battery?

If they changed all of those components for new (baring in mind it is very unlikely it was all three that were wrong in the first place which suggests they didn't isolate the cause properly), then I cannot see why you would still be having problems - unless they didn't reassemble it properly?

Like I say, if you're not getting enough charge to the battery and those components have been checked/changed, then it could well be a stator issue... alternatively, it could also be an earthing issue - either somewhere between the stator-reg/rec/battery, or indeed another earth issue that is draining the battery?

Well, it's not all that common a problem to be fair... yes a few people on here have suffered/complained about it, but when you consider how many Teneres have been sold now, its by no means a 'common' problem... even if the Capt' would love every owner of an XT660 to be a member of this forum I'm sure xx

Good luck with getting it sorted - if your dealer is drawing a blank, then an independent vehicle (motorcycle) electrical specialist ought to be able to pin-point the problem...

ps. a Divvy?! - behave!
