It's a cop out fix, it's a bodge. They obviously haven't found the source of the fault hence the continued issue. As a result you've got a not very old bike that's been devalued to (at the least) the cost of two parts of plastic. I hope the bike is how you want it mate, and continues to run and run now. Like I said, I don't like to be negative but for that to be the result of a Yamaha dealer's workshop is a disgrace. |
I'd tend to agree with Tripletom... maybe it's a belt and braces approach, but it shouldn't
need to be repositioned like that...
I'd also be concerned about the reg/rec getting hot in the flow of air from the radiator - maybe not in in general (UK) conditions - but if you were working the bike hard off-road or in warmer climes, you'll be surprised how much heat is kicked out of the radiator... Cook the reg/rec and you're back to square one? Jx |

Sorry, but me too. The problem cannot possibly be due to the location of the rectifier assembly, or every Tenere on here, sorry on the road, would be sitting by the side of that same road. I agree though, the connector could do with some protection, and I did just this to mine with an old plastic lid. I just relocated the horn (which also suffers from being filled with crud) sideways, then put a small guard in front of the rectifier assy. All of which can be reversed and the bike returned to original condition in about 10 minutes. The connecter works perfectly well when it is correctly assembled, mine is, and three years on the contacts still look like the day it rolled out of the shop. If you are happy then thats fine, it's your bike after all - The shop is going to have some explaining to do if it happens again though..... |
As somebody on here advised - I cut up an old inner tube and put a 'boot' over the rectifier connection and fitted a mud flap onto the front mud guard - problem with crap getting all over the rectifier solved!
