Update,Update.
Talked to Yamaha UK today about this issue and that it has been discussed on this site, I gave the site name and suggested that a view would show how many bikes have had this problem.
By all accounts a new loom has been received by the dealer, but the mechanic has been taken ill.
Intention is to replace the complete loom.
Letter from Yam UK is in the Post.
Don't expect to see bike until next week WEEK 8 (is this a record?)
I did suggest that I could take the bike (in my van) to another dealer, Padgetts, Batley but was advised that this would only confuse things.
Hey Ho, what's another week?:sad9:

Great news though, hope you get up and running soon and the mechanic runs the loom the correct way, as they can be a nightmare...

That is a result, well done!

Sorry mate - beaten that, my XTR was in the dealers for 14 weeks after the gearbox imploded :)

throughout the whole experience i was treat like a mushroom - kept in the dark and given nowt but cr*p - so i'm not surprised that you've had a struggle, its wierd that some folks have dealings with Yamaha where evrything is handed out on a plate and some of us have to fight tooth and nail to get an obvious design flaw sorted properly, no consistency!

For those interested my tenere has had a new loom somebody may be able to tell if its a updated plug, as you can see it still gets covered in mud and crap, a good clean with brake cleaner and some silicon over the top of plug, looks crude but does the job, i will spray the plug with spray grease then re-fit..

Hmmm, that certainly doesn't look like the one on mine that has failed. Is your bike an '09 model?
An excellent job by the way.
On a brighter note I actually received a letter today from Yam UK stating that "We are now pleasd to advise that the above dealer is in receipt of the required Wiing Harness and on successful completion of the repair, confirm that we will be writing to you regarding your concerns"

Next week is WEEK 8

So I wait and wait and wait and .....wait:120:

Nope mine a 09 plate but its a white 08 model, if somebody has a 08 bike and original loom try and get a picture up to compare if they are different, in fact if your a 09 model you can also.

Just a bit of an update on my bike. I picked it up from Acklams in Harrogate Yesterday with the problem apparently solved. At 9.45am I was stranded 1 mile short of Sutton Bank with the orange light flashing and me out of powerNot impressed. What compounded my irritation was that on closer inspection the retaining bracket/bolts collapsed in my hands due to the mechanic failing to tighten the bolts on the rectifier, shoddy workmanship

I went back to Acklams who finally realised the connector was corroded (despite me telling them initially this is what will have happened) and promised to replace the loom.

I also took the opportunity to call Yamaha whilst waiting for the RAC to pass on my thoughts. They admitted they had a couple of calls regarding this fault but at this time wouldn't be drawn on whether they were going to issue a recall. I would urge everyone (if you havent done so) to call Yam and make them aware of the problem, they admitted they need to get to a set number of calls/percentage/warranty claims for the recall to be triggered.

One good thing to come out the breakdown was that the RAC chap was a IAM instructor and gave me some great pointers on my riding on the way back to Harrogate!

I agree with 'iawebster', I just wish everyone who has had this problem would call Yam UK 01932 358042 Don or Moira.
Emphasize that this is not a solitary incident, even if you have had the 'fix' still call them as they should have your details on their database and cannot refute the facts. Fact there are about 120 Ten's registered with this site and I have counted about 25 that have had this problem, you work out the percentages!:119:
If anyone did a job or had a product to that amount of failure I would suggest you would be sacked or the product would be withdrawn or perhaps the product wasn't tested properly!
Still no contact about my bike, this is WEEK 8 now.
I intend to call the dealer tomorrow to find out when I can have it back.
I will put in a claim for compensation as I have used valuable tax, insurance and warranty time. The dealer in my opinion has not been pushing for this work to be done on my behalf and I will not be using them ever again. I will name and shame when / if I get my bike back.

NEWSFLASH

I got my bike back today!!!!!!!!!!!!

New wiring loom, new (4) indicators and one complete new rear caliper along with the 12K service (187.31).

I will now contact Yamaha UK with regard to compensation for 2 Months off the road with respect to lost Insurance, Tax and Warranty.

Will keep you guys informed.
It was raining quite hard when I got her back so I haven't had an opportunity to check her over yet, just hope all is OK.
