Goodbye to XT660X vibrations

Well Just saying goodbye from me to kev, who's mods have helped my try and tame my beast. But sorry none have cleared my vibration issues ( even my home made snake bar ) and my CTS fight. The xt660x comes out the winner in this competition. After 4 months I can no longer totally enjoy my bike to what it deserves. Every day I commute to work the pain gets worse, even the fun weekend rides do not make up for the low rev vibration while in slow traffic. So goodbye Xt660 and hello lighter clutch / multi cylinder new bike. It has been fun though, but just not for me in the end.

Since you asked I did a straight swap for a very low mileage Kawasaki ER6-N. Not quite as much fun in the very windy roads, but I have made no mods and it is a different world for vibration. Seating position is good and with the narrow bars, lane splitting is like riding a scooter. But most of all when I went to swap it, some 150km away. When I got there my hand was in agony. On the ride back it was not even numb. I do not regret my time with my XTX, but for people like me who only had mild carpal tunnel syndrome an XTX is a quick way to visit a surgeon.

Sounds like you have found the bike for you, good on you.

I have carpal tunnel quite bad, been in the motor trade for 29 years now & have problems riding any bike for more the 20 min. I do find the up right riding position of the XT helps me, but do agree it may make it worse buy the aggressive riding style I tend to adopt when riding in the mountains.

The thing I will miss is the xt660 forum, the ER6 forum is not so full of techie jems This says a lot for the personality of a bike to have so many dedicated followers. I will pop in now and again just to have a quick read.

You are always welcome at XT660.com no matter what bike you ride.

If you need a workshop manual I have a 05 copy with ABS.
