Sounds like you have found the bike for you, good on you.
I have
carpal tunnel quite bad, been in the motor trade for 29 years now & have problems riding any bike for more the 20 min. I do find the up right riding position of the XT helps me, but do agree it may make it worse buy the aggressive riding style I tend to adopt when riding in the mountains.
