Talking Yamaha Plastic or Ally Bash Plate?

Is there any advantage in changing the std plastic engine bash plate for the Yamaha ally one. With the Yamaha engine bars fitted the std plastic item appears to provide good all round protection. Considering the bike is not a full on enduro I cant see any advantage?
The large Tourateck guard looks good and has the advantage of having the tool box attatched.....
Has anyone had a problem with the std plastic guard?
thanks
Kev

I've got engine guards and the stock plastic base plate, and it has survived a mountian dash through the half built Romanian roads (or is that almost destroyed?) without any problems.

I'm fairly sure JMo still has the stock plastics, and her bike has had a total pounding with only a slight damage to the plastics and no engine damage.

I've used the plastic plate as a base to lift the bike on the bike life - no problems at all.

I think the Yamaha plastics are a bit under-rated really, perhaps in the extreme cold, under a beating the plastics might be brittle enough to break - dunno just guessing

Same here no problems, mine has survived off roading on the flinty tracks near me does the job fine.

Although I haven't used a bike stand under mine, I prefer tilting the bike against the sidestand and using an axle stand to prop the opposite swingarm to raise the rear wheel or engine bar to raise front.

There is an oil pipe that exits under the engine which put me off using a stand under the bashplate to support the bike in case the plastic flexed in against it. I need to have a look and check if this is the case or just me being over-cautious.

Must admit was going to make a bash plate like the TT one but I think now that I am going to buy the standard engine bars and either stick with the stock plastic one which will be lighter and quiter or wrap one over the engine guards.

I lift my bike using a lift and have no problems with the plastic plate.

I have the ally bash plate, it has had a few beatings but maybe the plastic could have survived that too. Got the ally one mostly because of the Bling Factor.
