I've got engine guards and the stock plastic base plate, and it has survived a mountian dash through the half built Romanian roads (or is that almost destroyed?) without any problems.

I'm fairly sure JMo still has the stock plastics, and her bike has had a total pounding with only a slight damage to the plastics and no engine damage.

I've used the plastic plate as a base to lift the bike on the bike life - no problems at all.

I think the Yamaha plastics are a bit under-rated really, perhaps in the extreme cold, under a beating the plastics might be brittle enough to break - dunno just guessing
