Problem with new 2015 tenere randomly stalling?
Hello people.
Long time lurker and first time poster here. Im having a problem with my tenere which I am using for my round the world trip ( www.memybikeandi.co.uk). The bike seems to stall now and again and is becoming more frequent. When the bike returns to idling and i go to rev it again it stalls. This can happen when changing gear or setting off. And will take a few seconds to start up again. Which makes me think and other suggested it may be a fuelling issue, but it starts first time on the button in the mornings... The bike is only a few months old and I have put 17,000k's on it. It has been serviced properly and the only mod I have done to the engine is a foam washable air filter. So there would be less faults on the road I haven't done any more mods to the engine. So any suggestions? If it is a fuelling issue... how do i go about sorting it? This bike has a lot more wires and other things in the way to the bikes I'm used to working on (my old trusty xt600e) I look forward to your replies. Cheers Rob www.memybikeandi.co.uk |

Before you get into fuelling, first thing I'd investigate is the idle speed on a warm engine. As a new bike runs in the idle settles and is not necessarily the same as what was set when it was given its PDI.
All XTs are prone to the problem you have if the idle speed is too low. It needs to be 1400-1500rpm otherwise it will stall coming off the throttle and back on again. Often they can be as low as 1200rpm, which is no good. The reason it isn't a problem starting from cold is the fast idle mechanism raises the idle, effectively hiding the problem. |

Ok from cold it seems my bike idling below 1000....?
This is whats indicated anyway. How do i sort this? Just by tightening the throttle cable or something more complicated? |

Get the engine warm and then turn the screw on the LHS of the throttle body shown in the picture clockwise to raise the idle speed.
![]() If yours is cold idling at 1000rpm, then it will be set too low. The fast (cold) idle mechanism just raises the idle by a fixed amount over the normal setting, thus yours is definitely out. |

Ok I will let it warm for a little while and aim for 1200-1400...
Thanks Hopefully this will sort the problem and I will be back tomorrow to let you know. Thanks again |

...and adjust tps after that.

You really want to be north of 1400 rpm for stall-free running.

+1. Fwiw, mine is set at around 1600. I prefer a fast idle, but a lot of people don't. I think it makes for easier control at low throttle settings, better gearshift, and a slightly easier transition between closed and re-opening the throttle in most situations.
Injected big singles are not plodders like many of the old ones. A low idle speed causes dramas, as you've already read. Hope it gets sorted anyway. Worrying, especially when a bike is new. |

Wondering if you got taht sorted since our bikes are about the same age and my stalling only started at 16.000km's too ... all the tweaks so far failed with me and I'm getting pretty upset.

You do know that was over 4 years ago and he has not been back on since?
