Gammatronix wiring direct
I have searched the forum but can,t quite get the answer I am looking for. I have bought a gammatronix led and was going to just wire it in direct, but I read a post that said probably not a good idea. I don,t know much about electrics so this was the simple way for me. also should it have a small 2amp fuse as well if I go down this route.

It only draws a few mA, but over time it will be enough to drain a battery. Do you really want it glowing all the time too? They are quite bright.
I found the easiest way to wire it was to the spare connector behind the panel just under the dash. This is on the sidelight circuit and is only live with the ignition on, or when the key is in the 'P' position (which is quite handy as it gives you a visual indication that you have left the sidelights on, which definitely will flatten your battery.) You can then mount the unit in the inner panels behind the front indicator(s). There is no need to fit a fuse as the Gammatronix has an internal fuse. Here's how I mounted mine: Here's the connector behind the dash: You will have to chop off the existing female connector as the male part is like rocking horse sh!t to get hold of! Replace it with a generic connector, or if you don't want to cut it off, spade terminals can be pushed into existing one and taped up. |

Thanks Pleiades, I have mounted the led in the same position as your picture. I am a bit confused about the spare connector, are you saying there is just a female in place ( picture is a bit small) with little or no chance of getting a male so chop off the female and fit a generic female to the wires and then fit the led wires to the generic male and connect up ? it will probably all be clear in the morning when I pull the panel off to have a look.

Unfortunately I didn't take a photo before the connector was chopped off! Are you going to run the Gammatronix with the bridge in place as a battery indicator or remove it and use it as a charge indicator? From experience, the charge indicator gives a much greater/useful range of voltage information on a running engine and an early warning if something goes amiss in the charging system (like the reg/rec unit). |

I will remove the bridge and run it as charge indicator. I take it the blue fitted piece is the bridge and I just take this off ? instructions are a bit vague about removing the bridge.

Mine wasn't/isn't blue but the newer ones could well be. It is a tiny resistor no more than 3 or 4mm long that slides out on the bottom/underside of the LED unit. Bridge (resistor) out for charge indication, bridge in for battery level indication.

Thanks Pleiades, mine is blue, pull it off and it exposes the pins. Wired it up to the spare connector like you said. working fine.
