Unhappy What is thing in my airbox?

Hi guys, Im new to the forum I was very happy finding this community and seeing all you guys supporting each other.

I got my first bike ever in June an Xt 660 X 2005.

So yesterday I went to look which filter the bike got installed , it has the stock filter and has the snorkel removed also.
Inside the air box is wet (oil) and also dirty on the side where to snorkel is, I even saw and plastic at the bottom after taking a picture of the bottom of the airbox.

My thoughts about the bike : the previous owner had PC and K&N filter installed (because I saw a sticker under the seat about when the k&n filter had to be cleaned etc).

So the bike setup is now :
- stock filter
- no snorkel
- leo 3x pipes
- TPS @ 16
- CO @ 70 (but yesterday I changed it to 40 and I think its riding a lil more smoother now).

Looks like a real bad air circulation to me.

My next move :
- K&N filter
- A2 TPS (I think I got the old one bcause the bike got the know cut off problem at traffic light once in a while)

and after those two are fitted im planning to go for the kev fuel mod.

So my first question are: That plastic thing in my air box! whats that ? (picture below) Is it just dirt I could remove, im afraid its something they feat in there and after I remove it the bike wont start again (yeah I'm a Noob).

2th question: The Oil in my airbox is this normal?

3th question: Nothing to do with my previous talk since last week one fork seal start leaking im planning to change it tomorrow. The fork is easy to take off, but any tips how to replacethe seal itself ? how to pop it off. Do I have to do anything special?

Will wait on some replies of you guys! thanks

Are you a troll? It's a ****ing nestle candy wrap We all put candy wraps in our airboxes for that easy extra 1hp.

Jokes aside, clean that thing out lol. Not sure what all the grime is could be molten chocolate. A little oil is normal but this second photo...

Best check that the lower airbox chamber is not blocked or full of chocolate otherwise water can't go anywhere. At least you'll have something to eat whilst cleaning.

Some info on the airbox can be found here: http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=12547

It should run "sweet" once cleared out.

It's hard to tell exactly from the photo, but I can see evidence of cracks and what looks like fibreglass matting? I would chance a guess that the airbox has either been damaged, split or someone has tried to drill/modify it and then tried to reverse what they've done - hence the Nestle packet taped to it?

Oil in the airbox is not uncommon. It can be the result of lots of prolonged high speed rides (motorway work), owners neglecting to drain the airbox through its drain tube periodically, and/or overfilling with engine oil.

The forks are fairly easy to take apart and reassemble - they are no different to any other damper rod style motorcycle fork. You will need to jam a suitably sharpened piece of wood (a pointed broom handle works well) into the recess in the bottom of the fork leg/lower to stop the damper rod turning as you try to undo it.

Thanks guys, I did some research about the Nestle and guess what? it's a hidden pokemon

@Pleiades
I saw the fiberglass and the crack too.

I'm taking this air box out and buy another one from ebay. I don't want that candy box on my bike.

As for the fork seal,I fixed it with a homemade seal mate. Worked like magic!
