Once you go black, you never go back

Now, I know the plastics for the ten are relatively cheap, but I couldn't afford 250 quid to replace all my grey plastic with black, so instead I spent 40 quid on spray paint...

Here goes nothing.

Step 1, strip all the plastics. Cover them in WD40 to loosen the grease and leave them to soak.

Step 2, kitchen degreaser and warm soapy water.

Step 3, wash them again!
(I had to go a bit crazy with washing it, as I just had my bike treated to an ACF-50 wash)

Step 4, Plastikote acrylic primer. 4 hours drying.

Step 5, Plastikote tough black satin. 4 hours drying.

Step 6, Plastikote outdoor flat black. 4 hours drying.

Step 7, second coat of flat black. 4 hours drying.

Here's where we are so far:

The tail end is just about to have its last coat of matt black.
The indicator panels, I've only just started as I needed a day when I wasn't using the bike.

More pics later!
Wish me luck...

Here we go:

Did the inside of my screen:

Even had enough paint left to do my panniers:

Is it black enough yet?

I'm pretty pleased with the finish.... Will let you know in a week or so how it's holding up!

Looks great! I didn't paint the plastics. I took the spare parts of the 2013 model. Most of them are black .
A nice mod would be painting the whole engine with matt paint and my exhaust (I have the Yamaha Akras).

Here we go:
These are OEM black panels from a 2013 Tenere except the one from the tank to the front. They are coated in black Plastidip.

One more, this one shows the OEM passager handle bars in black.

Well as a black TEN owner I like the look of the plastics, thanks for sharing. I think that will be a job over the winter to do my plastics.
