Rusty spokes xtx - .: XT660.com

Hi all, I am in need of having my wheels relaced with stainless spokes. Thanks to the salty roads and the poor quality spokes Yamaha ( and others ) fit as standard.......Can anyone recommend a wheel builder in N.Ireland? What sort of price should I expect to pay?
Any help appreciated TA!

I would have thought this is a job for someone with experience, as getting tension/roundness/true-ness looks real hard...

Theres a guy in Cullybackey (hilltop motors) used to import big trail bikes, he can respoke wheels ( so he told me )

How to learn i have replaced spokes and re built wheels .I started replacing 6 at a time and progress from there,if can undo the nipples.Check the side to side run out and the oval run out.Tighten or slacken the spoke nipples.

I just cleaned mine off with a brass wire brush and covered with air filter spray oil which i had lying around.

Thanks Trev. I will check him out as he is local to me.

I don`t fancy trying it my self , I tried a few push bike wheels in the past and they all ended up being pretty octagonal.

Maybe moto wheels would be easier due to their mass.Although they can still be pulled out of true by someone who is inexperienced.
Any idea what it might cost?

Just as a very rough ball-park guide, I paid �45 for labour last year when I had a BSA front wheel rebuilt (but it does vary). It isn't all that expensive, especially when you think of what some jokers charge just for fitting a tyre!

I really wouldn't have a go yourself unless you know exactly what you're doing (or someone who does at hand) and the right tools. Believe me, I've had a go a few times and I've never been entirely happy with the result and sought expert assistance to fettle things. Thanks for that. �45-�50 for labour per wheel sounds ok. Did you supply your own spokes and nipples. ?

Yep. I supplied all the parts. Price was for labour only.

Just a quick update on my XTX wheels, Just got them re laced in standard zinc plated spokes. Got them done by Philip McCallens guy in Lisburn. Highly recommended to anyone in NI . Only cost �100 pound per wheel too, which I think was fair, and I am delighted with the result.
