Standard Tool Kit
Last night need to drop both wheels out of the Ten to get the new tyres fitted - found I did not have a allen key for the front axel in my kit so pulled out the unused Yamaha tool roll.
What a load of c**p not allen key for the front axel and no spanner to fit the rear nut. Made up a 17mm bolt with two locking nuts and managed to get the front axel out eventually - luckly had a 22mm socket in my own tool chest. Will go to our local tool shop on Saturday to get a 17mm allen key.

Very true...
The Tenere's standard tool bag and kit is quite abysmal and, to be honest, a waste of space. Must admit that I treated myself (or rather, the Tenere) to a Kriega tool roll (�19 from Zen Overland) and have cherry picked the better quality items (huh, not many then?!) from the Yamaha kit and then added others as-and-when. Downside is that the Kriega roll is too big for the miserly underseat slot... but, as a rule, I've either got the pannier boxes on or my trusty Wolfman Enduro tankbag to keep things in. A shame the Tenere doesn't have the very useful underseat storage area of the 660R. C'mon Yamaha, high time something is done about that! |

How about we make this a proper tool thread and people post clever tools (w/links!) that save space?
I seem to remember a long time ago Jmo posted what stuff you should have in your tool kit but I can't remember where. I've gone through 2x tool tubes now. They shatter when I go offroad. Partly because of the mounting, but probably more because I carry a ****load of tools I might need. |

I did the same. Gradually added bits and bobs from old tool kits I still had lying around, until I had everything to take the entire bike apart. It now fits partly in the tank recess and partly in a tool tube, together with a pair of mechanics gloves and a pair of jump leads with alligator clamps. Another tool tube holds 3 tire irons, a socket wrench a CO2/hand pump and a piece of cloth to use on the trails for laying out tools, nuts and bolts without having to go dig for them in the grass or the mud.

As above. Throw the OE kit away and start afresh with some decent tools that fit for purpose. (I still laugh at the fact the Yamaha spark plug box spanner doesn't even fit unless you cut it down!)

I have my genuine (???) Yamaha toolkit under the seat retained in the area where the manual is supposed to go. So far it's stopped disintegration. Strangely, my plug socket fits with a bit of patience...
It's rubbish that an adventure bike doesn't even have bloody wheel removal tools, isn't it? I can understand if it's like that with KLRs or DR650s, but for a bike that costs up to 2/3 as much again (before bargaining) here in Oz - well!! |

I have full yamaha tool kit under seat plus allen keys,swiss army knife,spare fuses,black tape no hammer...
