Luggage Top Plate in alu for XT660Z
Ok, I made a model after a couple of measurements and paper templates...
And this is what I come up to, please let me know what you think and if you have some improvement ideas that I could do! |

Look greats.
Ive been doing the same thing just lately, just been mocking one up in carboard (used the touratech one as a starting point). i want mine to support roll bags. so the main difference im going for over the touratech one is making it wider to help support the roll bag. Also making it slightly more of a square shape (apart from where it fits to the bike near the pillion seat) |

If anyone could add a decent grab rail to one of these, I'd be seriously interested. The grab handles on the Ten are the main cause of complaint from both my wife and my son, so I need an alternative.

Nice functional design, what thickness aluminium are you thinking of using? Id be keen on one.

One practical advice, that I would like to have on such plate:
Make another hole in the most rear part of the plate in the middle. It is functional when using elastical straps or net. I like to attach it in the midle in the rear also, so I am sure nothing will get loose or lost when having luggage on that plate. I ussually put on top of dry bag my Teva sandals, plastic bottl of water... shirt or towel that can dry while riding... Such stuff can slip back and fell off, that is less likely to happen if there is attachment on the rear also, not only on sides. |

************************************************** ******* Ok, I have made some minor changes on the plate... Added some extra holes near the edge to be used with elastic straps, or whatever you want... (suds750 wanted some grab rails, and it could be used for that too.) Reduced the number of slots from 4 to 3 on the angled part, to make it more stiffer than before! BUT ALSO these holes is mounting ponts for a plate extensioner. That would be possible to use if riding alone and for longer distances or just if you dont want to use the side panniers but however want som more luggage capacity. This is still just a sketch, I have not yet measured exactly how long or wide it would be... OR how I will solve the need of an support underneath the plate. This extensioner would make the luggage area about 220% bigger compared to the smaller one. What do you think about it, good or bad? The smaller standard size plate, but with added holes around and reduced slots... also changed the logotype to a more discreeter one! Plate extensioner... |

I like it!
I'd thought long and hard about a rack for the pillion seat (yet done nothing about it!) and your extension idea is just the sort of thing I had in my mind. At the time I thought any rack could fix to the grab rail mountings... ...and then changing to longer bolts and making up a pair of tubular spacers or suitable brackets for support at the front? Keep up the good work buddy! |

Ok, holes are now better on the rear, just make sure they are big enough to fit some most standard used hooks on straps.
I like the rear hole on the extensioner more, than on base plate. Its more in the middle and bigger. I understand you want to keep some space for logo... |
