If anyone could add a decent grab rail to one of these, I'd be seriously interested. The grab handles on the Ten are the main cause of complaint from both my wife and my son, so I need an alternative.
I'm sorry but I dont think that would happen, main reason is because I dont think there is a market for it. But to still your hunger, I have put three holes (made for M6) on each side that could be used for whatever you want. So if you want grab rails, you may put it there. (maybe in the future, I can help you doing two grab rails if you want to.... but I dont have the time right now.)

Nice functional design, what thickness aluminium are you thinking of using? Id be keen on one.
I dont know yet, as thin as possible... I know the Touratech plate is 4mm. But 4-5mm I think would be good....

One practical advice, that I would like to have on such plate:
Make another hole in the most rear part of the plate in the middle.
That's a good advice, would it be enough if I put some holes in the rear end of the plate?

Ok, I have made some minor changes on the plate...
Added some extra holes near the edge to be used with elastic straps, or whatever you want... (suds750 wanted some grab rails, and it could be used for that too.)
Reduced the number of slots from 4 to 3 on the angled part, to make it more stiffer than before!

BUT ALSO these holes is mounting ponts for a plate extensioner. That would be possible to use if riding alone and for longer distances or just if you dont want to use the side panniers but however want som more luggage capacity.
This is still just a sketch, I have not yet measured exactly how long or wide it would be... OR how I will solve the need of an support underneath the plate.
This extensioner would make the luggage area about 220% bigger compared to the smaller one.

What do you think about it, good or bad?

The smaller standard size plate, but with added holes around and reduced slots... also changed the logotype to a more discreeter one!

Plate extensioner...
