Xt front sprocket difference
I was about to fit a new front sprocket from JT,but when I removed the renthal one I noticed how much thicker the mounting cog was, almost 10mm compared to the JT almost 6mm, because the renthal has an additional flange behind it,and if I fit the JT and tighten up the lock tab and nut the sprocket slides about the shaft, were as the renthal doesn't.
Is anybody using this type as I feel it may cause premature wear on the output shaft? Here's a picture

Cant see the image in my mobile but had the same problem with a front sprocket from snell. Couldnt find a 13T sprocket att my local dealer wich made me go with snell.
For me it went to far in making the chain alignment bad. My solution was to machine down the old worn out sprocket and only keep the back ring as a separate distance for the new sprocket. (A flat distance ring should work aswell) Is this what you are refering to or is the sprocket to thin for the chain aswell? The sprocket with the additional flange / shoulder is the correct fitment. A sprocket without the flange will cause the sprocket and especially the chain to become too close to the engine casing and that will allow the chain to mash up the bolts on the casing situated behind the sprocket and at the upper rear of the casing. Also the sprocket without the flange / shoulder will not allow the sprocket nut to tighten down on it (tab washer included) . This will allow the none flange sprocket to float on the shaft behind the nut and not run in the correct alignment.
Great idea to machine down an old sprocket to create the required spacer but it would have to be perfectly flat otherwise the sprocket nut will not be able to apply the 120Nm torque required to the entire contact surface of the sprocket, plus it would have to be the exact width as to allow the tab washer just about to fit on the end of the gearbox shaft. I found this out myself two days ago when I decided to put my new chain and sprox on, which I had in my personal stock for a while, only to find the new front sprocket was plain so I've had to order a new one.

Indeed boys,I've ordered another renthal one and will be returning the flat JT one,and I've made a ballicks of riveting the new chain link so they should both arrive around the same date.

After querying the discrepancy with the eBay supplier it turns out they sent me the wrong sprocket.
A replacement was swiftly sent out and arrived resembling the original deeper cog.

...great news buddy but get on this......My new sprocket arrived today too and it's a third design. It has the flange/shoulder and both sides are fitted with a hard rubber to match the sprocket's circumference. This is sometimes known as a 'run quiet', in theory damping out chain noise I suppose.
The complete PITA was the tab washer wouldn't fit properly within this rubber ring. Out with the craft knife then !...
