Hello from Derbyshire

Greetings all, I'm new here.
I've just picked up a 2006 single spark and a 2007 twin spark XT660R.
Having avoided the "evils" of EFI for as long as possible, the impending ULEZ in London and the roll out of similar schemes in other Northern cities means I've decided to get rid of my fleet of six RFVC Hondas, with their carburettors and Euro 2 compliance, before the value starts to plummet (as is happening with diesel cars over here).
I use bikes as my sole transport and ride about 18K miles a year. I keep them as standard as possible as I've found that's the way to keep them reliable. That said a nice set of cans goes a long way!

Well I stand to be corrected, but I thought the 2007 XTR gained an O2 sensor and an extra spark?
I haven't received either machine yet (next Saturday) so I guess I'll find out then!

I'll be hitting the green lanes first thing.

Yes, an 02 sensor was fitted from all 2007 production onward

No, twin spark, not the case.

Oh, right you are.
That's good news then, I'm looking at the 2006 bike as a workhorse to do the commute and high mileage runs and eventually act as spares for the "nice one" (the 2007) bike.
TBH I didn't realise the two were different (should've done more research), so the fewer differences between them the better.

Thanks for all the greets.

Thanks for all the greets.
In a nutshell, from 06 to 07 the differences are as follows:

1) 02 sensor / Lambda probe fitted to left header
2) redesigned rear swing arm, easier on the eye than the previous box section one and with a better chain tension system, lighter and stiffer than the previous one due to different alloy used instead of S/Steel.
3) redesigned front light cowling
4) new tank plastic panels
5) smaller radiator
6) new black fork legs with a redesigned front attachment due to previous cracking by the axle clamps.

Can't think of anything else, it's been so long
