Clutch switch bypass?
So I've just replaced my clutch switch after having accidentally snapping the plastic housing. To add to the fun the male pins off the loom block were fused into the female block and snapped off. I barely by the skin of my teeth managed to re pin the block and all seems good.
But should it do the same again I'm stuffed, if I need to fix it again can a get away with just joining the loom wires together? The side stand has already been disabled. |

What you do depends on how you want the start inhibit system to behave.
If you’ve already bypassed the side stand switch, then the clutch switch (in conjunction with the neutral switch) will now only affect whether the bike starts in gear of not. There are two options to bypass it: (1) If you want to have it so as it will ONLY start in neutral (regardless of clutch lever position) then just disconnect the switch at the connector (NO continuity) and remove the switch completely. (2) If you want to be able to start it in any gear (regardless of the bike being in neutral or clutch position) then you will need to cut the wires to the switch and solder them together to give continuity (or solder bridge them at the connector) and then remove the switch completely. Finally, if you want to be able to start the bike in neutral or in gear but only when the clutch is pulled (pretty much as stock setup but without the influence of side stand input) then obviously you will need to keep the switch and leave it connected. |

I can ONLY start my 2004 660R when the bike is in neutral.
I have bypassed the side start switch and the clutch switch but it still will not start unless it's in neutral. The starter motor will turn and turn but nothing. Any ideas ? Last edited by tedmagnum; 19-08-18 at 19:06. |

I've answered my own question.
If you want to bypass your clutch switch, and bypassing it at the lever doesn't work then do this. Expose your main relay unit (behind RH rear panel). There is a blue/yellow wire coming from the relay which is the earth. Cut the black/yellow wire and take the side which comes from the relay and tie it into the blue/yellow earth wire. This will activate the relay meaning you no longer need the clutch switch. To test.....If you put the bike in gear with the side stand up, you can hear the relay click on and off as you touch this wire to the blue/yellow earth. I've unplugged my clutch switch cable (under the tank on left hand side. You can access it if you remove LH front panel) Note: This doesn't affect the sidestand switch. |
