Great Friend
After a call to my Dad in the UK recently to discover his long time friend is sadly & unfortunately not far away from losing his fight to cancer, wanted to show his appreciation to my Dad for all he has done for him in the past by passing on his 1930's Velocette.
I believe the bike has a TT race victory under its belt as is stated to some description on the tank. It was from the good old days when the competitors used to ride to the track, race, then ride home. So long as they hadn't crashed it. I don't have much info on the bike taking pride of place in the garage at the moment but think it looks something like this ..... |

Nice.
That’s a GPT 250, dating from somewhere between 1930 and 1946. Interestingly they were the first 2-stroke to have a throttle-controlled oil injection system and separate oil and fuel partitions in the tank so the more sophisticated gent didn’t have to get his hands dirty premixing fuel. They were also one of the first bikes to have coil ignition, the ultimate in 1930s tech! From 1931 all Velocette tank decals read: "26-28-29 TT Winners". However, the GTP was a popular club racing mount and was quite successful at the TT during the thirties, so it may well have a racing past? |

Thanks for that Pleiades, I'm lead to believe it's a 1932 model & Dads mate Barry did have an old photo of the bike at Brands Hatch but don't know if it was competing or posing in the car park!
Wow, the bike mixed the oil for you, unlike a much later BSA Bantam I had then which had a measuring cup on the underside of the petrol tank fuel cap to mix the 2 stroke oil. |

Very nice. A friend of mine down the road collects Velocettes. He has the only known complete 1913 Veloce in the world, just sitting in his conservatory. Amazing piece of kit.
