Morning.. few questions from a wannabe xt660x owner
Hi y'all
looking at getting an xt660x and i've been searching the forums trying to find the answers but not to good on the ole search thing. I love the look of them and the sound, a bloke a my local sometimes parks up outside and not sure what cans he has but dam they sound good. Currently have a cbr600 fs-1 and a cb500 that i'm going to part chop. I am looking for a bike mainly used for commuting in all weathers throughout the year and some weeks can cover 400miles+. Need something long lasting and practical but fun and I can tweek with myself n want that grin factor. My questions are I know about the surging and the modifications. So with a kevs air mod and filter say stage 1 will I need to adjust as the weather gets colder? Will it improve fuel economy on the right setting? Can it shorten the life of the engine? From what I can see depending how I ride I can expect anything from low 40mpg to around 60mpg, that sound about right? Thanks for the help and have to say a great site where i've found lots of useful information and apologies if ive plaed this question in the wrong forum. Regards |

I had mine since 2004 too and it would still be running today had it not been stolen and me suffered a bad accident at work that prevents me from ever riding again, I would have got another and still have the same grin on the face every day at every commute filtering like a nutter as I used to at 60mph average. |

Hi Rob and
to XT660.com
An XT sounds like it could be the ideal bike for the kind of use you describe. It'll be practical and yet still be fun when the mood takes.

It can do as it may allow you to ride in a higher gear than you would have otherwise done, or change gear earlier. Much of it depends on how you ride though. No. Yes. |

Had an r for 3yrs and a bit years and 40k miles of commuting, scratching, touring, off roading, TLC and abuse and it still came back for more!!
Engines are basic and that's good as they need simple maintenance, easy servicing and you don't need a computer to change the oil!!! Mpg is really up to how and the way you ride. best I got was 68mpg which was a full tank, 65mph, flat roads, and I did 100miles without changing or stopping. Worst was about 50mpg and that was on back roads where I was ehhh spirited riding with a friend with no baffles!!! average 55-60mpg
