An XT sounds like it could be the ideal bike for the kind of use you describe. It'll be practical and yet still be fun when the mood takes.

The fuel mod does benefit from a slight tweak if you're riding regularly in ambient temperatures below 10C (increase setting) and above 30C (decrease setting). The settings Kev provides as aguide are tested at 20C. It is always best to fiddle about with the settings anyway to find the best/smoothest running for your own bike

It can do as it may allow you to ride in a higher gear than you would have otherwise done, or change gear earlier. Much of it depends on how you ride though.
