single or double exhaust
Hi guys,
going to get rid of the giant vespa exhaust on the Ten and sling on some MTS's. I would like to keep the balance of the bike and stick a pair on but everything I see so far reckons the single is better for performance. Not to worried about gaining 0.5 bhp or whatever and want to keep the thing reasonably quiet (but not vespa quiet like it is) any down sides to the twins ? |

In very general terms of exhaust physics a single can 2-1-1 system lends itself to improving torque and a twin can 2-1-2 system will lean more towards improved top end power. The differences will be very negligible though on a single cylinder bike - the more cylinders you have the more exhaust tuning becomes critical. Weight and cost mainly. However a twin can system will almost certainly be quieter due to the extra volume of silencing material, so if quietness is your highest priority then twin is probably the way to go... |

I reckon I would go more for torque than anything else so may opt for the single pipe.... The one concern I have is what the right hand side will look like with no pipe on it, does it look like something is missing or is it clean? Guess I will have to hunt through the gallery... |

Buy the twin and see how it goes, then with a blank in the other pipe to see how it goes as a single. Then if thats what you like, run a single but mount the other pipe gutted as a tool kit/spares holder.

Blimey, solid advice guys!!! I prefer my XTX with the existing 2 pipes and I just swopped the 2 end cans for Leo Vince. I saved a few kilos and gained a better breathing machine with an attractive but not loud voice too, which in the city is a good thing so they can hear you coming.

I bought a generic tool tube from a bloke who knew a bloke who made them, it's not a brilliant tube, it lacks space and length but it does give some storage on the bike. I't due for replacement and I'll probably use an AdventureSpec type. I had to manufacture a mounting system for it, the MTC single can comes with a double mount (as if there were two cans) so there's the start of the mounting, then you just need to stabalise it as the MTC mount isn't designed for hanging a tool tube from. These pictures should give you an idea of what it looks like ->

Wow, thanks for the replies and the pics guys....I'm going to go for a set I think, might go for the shorter MTC twin set up.....
It won't be for a while but I will post up when I have got it done. I've got a Kev 02 sensor and fuel mod coming too so once the DNA's are in I will post back reports a go go.... I love the bike, it's ticks so many of my boxes..... |
