Conventional forks.
Hi all, I've been reading with interest posts about USD fork mods. I have a 2011 XTX (wanted an R but the X was a good deal). I'm looking for an adjustable fork set than can deal with tarmac ( I'm not a racer) but can cope with Alpine fire tracks and pot holes. I could go the USD route (goodness knows there's enough choice on ebay) but I'd be happy with a modern set of right side ups that I could slide into my original yokes so I didn't have to mess around too much with my 2011. Any ideas?

All manner of bikes have adjustable RWU 43mm forks. The trick is going to be finding some that are approximately the right length and travel.
XR650L might be a good bet. Not modern levels of adjustability, but more adjustment than the ones you've got. You'll need to mess around with wheel spacers, but that's relatively straightforward to get some machined up compared with custom yokes or steering stems.

Did you ever hear about this?
http://www.suspensionhfs.com/ It's some kind of spacer with compressed air regulation. I haven't seen it alive but I read about it on a Spanish XT forum. I'll post a picture as well:

What tyres do you run on the 17" rims to allow you to use the XTX off road???? I have always fancied the idea of having 2 sets of wheels/tyres, a road set (17") for the summer and then a semi off road set (21 and 18, or similar) to use in the winter months and or for some very gentle off road. BUT it seems that I would need to change forks too so perhaps is not a practical idea, so another compromise might be to have two sets of standard XTX wheels, one with standard road tyres (I have Pirelli Diablos) and then one with semi off road tyres. What tyres are available in 17" which are ok for some gentle off road????? Thanks.

(Now sold on, sob) 2011 Blue XT660X with gold wheels, was 26,500 km. Engine mods: K&N Stage 1 filter, DNA Stage 2 filter, snorkel removed, Kev fuel mod fitted. Plus: smoked Puig screen, Yam aluminium sump guard, Yamaha / Acerbis handguards, Givi Trekker aluminium side cases, Leo Vince X3 cans plus Kev front fork mod and Fender Xtender. Just fitted Michelin Road Pilot 3 tyres. SOLD the XTX for a Super Ten 1200. And just bought a Raptor 700 so staying on here for some tips.... |

Why not put a set of race tech gold valve or Ricor intimanators in your forks
