MICHELIN AC10 - Any One?
Went down to my local dealer yesterday to look at some more aggressive tyres.
As they dont stock Conti's he recommended the Michelin AC10 ![]() At AU$220 a pair fitted it seems a good buy and they are D.O.T approved. However the front looks like its going to ride like sh-t on the road. Check the massive spacing between the centre lugs. My intentions are to ride the bike into the hills and find some dirt tracks (so I gotta get there first) Any one have any experience with the AC10's Thanks >Marc< |

Hi Marc,
Yep AC10`s are great in soft loamy soil and mud, I like em on my TTR250. Now the BUT, AC10`s can be a very good tyre depending on terrain, air pressure and your skill. On the road AC10`s can take a little getting used to (don't push to hard) and can be frightening on wet tar (trust me on this one). I have had these fitted to my TT600R before and they can be skaty on hard packed dirt and I have had them wash out a bit (also they don't last long on the 600). For me I would not fit AC10`s to my 660 but it is a personal choice and depends on the terrain you ride in and your experience. I personally think that Michelin T63 or Pirelli MT21 or Dunlop D606 would make a better choice and are more an allrounder use. Tyres are a personal choice and what works for one may not work for another depending skill level, type of use etc. Mate if you have any questions etc feel free to pm me as I am only to happy to help if I can. |

Thanks
Hi Supamanaint
Your mate said you would be along... Any advise is great and appreciated as when it comes to the 660 I am still a novice. I am definitely concerned about the road handling. The Tourances are "OK" but they wander on the white lines. I gotta find a compromise between what will get me there (on the bitumen) and give me that extra confidence I need in the dirt. I will take your advise and research the others you recommended Cheers Marc |

Mate I was just thinking that depending on what type of dirt you are riding that you may also like to consider Pirelli MT60 (but not the corsa version).
The MT60 would be so much better than your current tyres on dirt and road, they work well on hard pack dirt (so depends on what sort of dirt you ride) and are great on road. Aside from what tyres you chose just remember to take you time and build your confidence at your own pace, oh and just relax and let the bike move around a little. Just a note on pace, to slow can be as bad as to fast, just find a pace you are comfortable with. Cheers, Shane |

Tyre Sizes
Been looking at tyres you suggested and I quite like the look of the MT21's and the T63's - I can see the tread pattern in the front is more friendly then the AC10's
On a seperate note - just went to check my Tourances and see that my front is 90/90/21 but the Rear is 150/70/17 - I wonder if the previous owner changed them bigger tyres (bike only had 1800ks on when I bought it so doesnt make sense)? Looking further the MT60's are a reasonable looking tyre - given that I will not be doing any thing too aggressive.. Cheers Marc Last edited by ThunderDownUnder; 05-08-12 at 11:57. |

Rear tyre should be a 130/80/17, a to wide tyre on the rear can push the front and would be worse in the dirt.
Maybe give the MT60's a go to start with as they will work on good dirt and will suprise you on the tar (but just the standard MT60's and not the corsa rs version ok). Build up slow and see how you go, with MT60's you can enjoy the dirt and still get your boot to touch on the tar. So what area are you in mate, cheers. The tyres are Conti Escapes in the pic |
