Just noticed today when giving the bike a quick clean that the rear tyre is starting to square off already, after 1800 miles!!!

Is this down to my style of riding having come from sports bikes or is this expected from the standard Pirelli's?

It's more likely down to where you've been riding, rather than style or coming from sports bikes - been riding a lot on straight roads, dual carriageways and motorways lately??

I have a 55 mile round trip to work and back each day which is mainly done on B roads.

I've been trying to use the bike as much as possible as it works out cheaper on fuel than running a 1.8 litre petrol car engine.

Sorry mate, its the cr*ppy Dragon OEM tyres!! Had exactly the same problem & switched to Michelin Road Pilot 3 after 2000 miles. They don't square at all, but scallop quite badly. Rear lasted 4.5k miles, front is still good after 5.5k

How on earth have you managed to get 1800 miles out of one of those,my original didn't go 1200 and it was completly scrap.

The bad news I've never had a bike like this XT for eating tyres,it's not really the bikes fault,just the way it can be ridden,with 3500 miles on the clock I'd done 3 rears and 2 fronts,managed to stop the rot with Road Smarts,the Mich 03's wear better but don't turn anywhere near as quick as a RS.

What ever you go for just make sure they are dual compound,they'll never last otherwise.

Maxxis presa sm, get about 2500 out of a rear and commute 70miles a day every day. The trick is to keep weaving wherever you can and take those corners loooow! I dont ride conservatively

Is anyone running Michelin Pilot Road 2ct's on their X?

I had these on my R1 and couldn't fault them at all. But from reading other posts they don't get a mention.

You said Pilot Road 2ct??,the 2ct means it's dual compound just like 02/03

There was Pilot Power which was the old style tyre that came in single and dual compound and that was replaced with the Pilot Pure which is also dual compound,in their own right good sports tyres,but you won't get the right kind of mileage out of them that you will with either the 02/03 or a Road Smart.

Someone mentioned the turn-in being slow. If you're a ham-fisted middle aged commuter like me, you'll probably not notice any difference, apart from them lasting longer & seemingly not requiring a warm up, even mid-winter!!!

Hi, my original Dragon was gone after 2500 miles, the Pilot Road 2 has done 5500 miles and still has plenty of life left even though it has been used harder. I would recommend these (Its what I'll be buying again without a doubt) but I beleive Pilot Road 3 are better for the wet. Mike.
