Normally i'd guess decompression lever for the WR but as he was using it when wheelie'ing i'd guess its rigged to the back brake to control his wheelies when his feet are off the pegs.
Always wondered how those dudes did it. Well spotted. |
Yeah thats what got me, when he was on the back.
funky stuff! |
my guess with the 2 levers is the small blue lever looks like rear brake lever think thats why he can wheelie so slowly and when feet are over handle bars

As promised, a follow up from Wheelie School post.
9 till 3, but it started to rain abit about 2. By which point I was nackered so we finished. The whole experience was really good fun. There was just me and one other lad, so no real chance of collision ;) The guy running it, Jimmy, was super friendly and easy to get on with. http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/1.jpg First Jimmy explained how the technique worked and broke it into bits, So first off was to practice the basics. Throttle control and Rear brake control. http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/2.jpg http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/3.jpg Then we put it all together and got abit confused... http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/4.jpg So Jimmy shows us how it's done... http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/5.jpg http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/6.jpg http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/7.jpg Then I get the hang of it :) http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/8.jpg http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/9.jpg Chuffed... http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/10.jpg One of the best bits was going on the back while Jimmy pulled a few. Here's a pic of Anna looking comfortably relaxed.. A natural pillion ;) http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/11.jpg Going on the back of Jimmy's was awsome, he showed 3 different hight wheelies. The first was fun, 2 runs of the runway at 45degrees (this was the hight I was aiming for), nice, Jimmy chatting away over his shoulder as we blast the length of the runway on the rear wheel. The second was abit more scary, clinging on at 60degrees this time. But still i could hear Jimmy chatting away as we did a couple of runs of the runway. The third, on the balancing point. Now I don't know if it was because I was on the back instead of riding position, But it felt wrong.. LOL. much, much higher than I initially thought was safe, almost like I'd rolled round under the rear of the bike.. AWSOME. Now I know what a wheelie is... :) Here's Jimmy, always smiling.. ;) http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/y346/Fijjitt/12.jpg Well recommended if you in the area and fancy a day of having your arms pulled off. |
good post an good pics.

Looked like great fun. Have you managed to put those skills into practice on the XT yet? Did jimmy give you any tips which were appropriate for our bike.
|
LOL.. To be honest, no.
Now I've had a day on the runway, it's quenched my thirst abit. Think I'm going to go back and have another day with Jimmy. Then when I'm abit more confident I'll try it on the XT. The key he was teaching was to part throttle against the rear brake, this put tension on the upper part of the drivechain and pulled the swingarm up, lowering both the front and rear suspension. Then pull clutch and increase revs, then ping clutch and releae rear brake simultaneously. Boing, up she comes. It was harder than I thought it'd be, not like the little power wheelies I sometimes blip from the lights. The main difficulty was If you didn't get it all right, the bike just pulled away really quick without lifting the front, my arms and neck were well beat by the end. On his bikes it worked out to every extra 1000rpm was 15degrees height. So the 45degrees was 5 or 6000rpm (can't remember) and an increase of 1000 made it 60degrees and another 1000 made it 75degrees. Obvoiusly the XT doesn't redline at 12000rpm so it would be quite different, but probably not to hard to work out. Finding somewhere to practice is the thing. My commute is well busy and not the best place/time to try. A friend has recommended using Teco carpark after they close on a sunday as it is private land and you just get asked to move on when discovered. Dunno how true this is, might look into it. Anyone know? http://s0.geograph.org.uk/photos/87/...3_e7ebee05.jpg |
mrfijjit..... i will tell ye something here.... wheeling the xt will be a LOT easier than they big heavy streetfighters... try it on yer xt... that routine yer talkin about about slippin the clutch,,, theres a GREAT chance ye will not pull it up in 3rd gear,, so why dont ye try it an go thru all the sequences... in 3rd gear,,, it probably will not pull up,,
butg ye`l get the feel fur it,,, then when yer confident enough... try it in 2nd,, then it will pull up.... depending on where yer seating is,, an yer power... that will detrermine how far it will come up... ye will not flip it.. trying it out...its when ye get gallous an fullo beans an ye kin do them,, that theres a chance yel pull it up too far. but thats a while down the road yet... if ye can . buy a wee 250.. or a 125 an try the same... then ye will need a wee bit more revs tae pull it up, but ye`l get used tae it easier |
Hmm cctv of tesco carpark ...lol wheeli playground ....

Interesting to hear the throttle and rear brake explanation for dipping the suspention. Great to have a technical decription that explains the dynamics of the bike. Really helps to understand where my technique is going wrong. I'm always amazed how impossible it feels when i'm purposly trying, but how effortless it is when I accidently wheelie.
