TimM

I got to hand it to you, your older 10r is in top order.....looking like it just rolled out of the factory and I'm thinking this new one just might look as good as it does now in another 20yrs also, but mate when are you going to get it muddy? dirty pictures are sometimes better than clean ones.....lol! ok they allways are.... :tongue3:

TimM 02-05-09 14:52

Thanks guys!

The screen is better for me with less buffeting from the wind, I am 6'4" and found that I was getting the worst of the wind right in my face, 2 or 3 inches taller or shorter would probably been OK.

The Acerbis handguards but up a bit of a fight to get them on, had to take of the bar end weights and drill out the threaded inserts in the end of the bars.

Bikes should be dirty by the end of the month - sorry!

Chekamus 02-05-09 21:09

your bike looks great am loving your mods. how easy was it to cut your screen down? am thinking of doing a similar thing , what did you use to cut it?

Pinglow 06-05-09 04:50

The bikes at the dealers'. Only white and khaki colours available.

I chose khaki. I like white too but it's a very popular colour. Hopefully this one is mine:yahoo:

Wow, a brown one still in stock somewhere...

I'd be interested to hear where/who still has 08 bikes in stock (that looks like DK motorcycles, judging by the rows of bikes in the background x)

I love mine so much I want to buy another!

I may well steal your idea...I'm giving Nick's windjammer a go and I'll maybe try the screen after that. Nicely done.

Taller screen

On advrider.com there is a bloke that bought a taller screen that has been molded to look just like the factory one but taller. He bought it from "Off The Road" ... i think. anyway heres the link : http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=265147&page=159

in one of the pics he has placed the original over the taller one so you can see the differance.

have a gander.

cheers

Thanks Maxwell, it wasn't so much the Khaki, rather an 08 that I was after (colour not so important)... but I'll keep it in mind!

If there are any others, please let me know...

Hee hee - that's the plan... hence why colour is unimportant, rather the price has to be right... looking at sub 4500 ideally...

G'day JMO, can you buy the stickers easy enough over there for these tenere's. I read of one guy re-painting his white fro red and he had the proper stickers for the white model on.

Yes, Adventure Boy I think it was... presumably the various graphics are available as a spare part?

I have other plans mind you...

Hi, in case you didn't go to the 'newbies say hi' section, I am located in Singapore. We are more than happy to even get the 08s instead of nothing at all. Sorry to the guys in US and OZ:toothy9::toothy9::toothy9:

Ah, my mistake - that would explain it then!

A lot of people seem to prefer the 08 colours, and you are going to love that bike for sure!

And a belated welcome! (even if this is technically the wrong thread, it's never wrong to say hi!)

ps. still looking for the best price on a new Tenere - 08 or 09 - anyone?

The Bike Shop Faversham ( http://www.thebikeshopfaversham.co.uk/ ) have a brown one in stock (plus a black, red, blue and a second hand black) if you really want one. Did not check the price but as its in stock they tend to keep the price before the recent rise.

The 2nd hand one (with top box) is going for 4600 is however...

Sorry for getting slightly off topic for a moment, but:

JMo, as far as i can see, your ride report accross America and back, is this only to be read in a magazine in the UK or do you have it posted on the web somewhere as well? After seeing some pics you have post here and at ADV has got my interest and I would like to have a read of your journey.

Cheers
Reg

Hi Reg -

I'll be writing about my trip across the USA and back on the Tenere for TBM magazine (UK published, but available on worldwide subscription, and in US book/magazine stores for example) later this year - having spoken to my editor this week, the series is likely to start later summer and run over a number of issues.

As such, I won't be 'publishing' anything of any substance on the web (or elsewhere) until after that series is published, but feel free to ask any specific questions regarding the trip, and I'll do my best to answer them here on XT660.com

Where were these pics taken?

Cheers.

Stinky.

The offroad section was near Tain and the picture of my bike on its own was taken at the Kyle of Tongue earlier the same day (Sunday).

Are you the chap with the blue Ten then? Dave likes to talk mpg's so by any chance did he ask you what you were getting?

Al.

Twas me.

He was very sceptical about mileage figures. But I had a KTM 990 too once and they like a drink!
He seemed not to like the thought of the Ten being able to achieve 260+ miles to a tank.
Ive done 260 on a tank myself and bike took 19 1/2 litres to fill.

Hey, Cotthem! Just over the border near Baarle-Nassau/Hertog and Weelde. Lots of gravel/farmroads and some sandy stretches too.

Did you weld up your engine bars or have them replaced ?

cotthem 13-05-09 20:50

Comming from work, after I had to ride a Fazer600, I was glad to trade this vacuumcleaner back for my Tenere.

Maintainance on 18000 km. My chain isnt that bad, so a few more 1000 km is possible. The Cushdrive replaced. New oil, new filters and new sparkplug.
I'm still loving this bike so much, every day I go to work with a big grin on my face, (okey, I love my work to :-)) A bit more power for cruising a comfy 150km/h with luggage for an hour of 10, and it would be the perfect bike.

This pic is taken at my backyard:downtown:

Tea in the left one, coffee (and rum) in the left.

Topbox is converted into a fridge for the beer.

I am getting old and need my creature comforts.....

I welded them up. They are the main support for the side racks so I needed to. I could have got them replaced but it would likely have happened again and besides, there are now 4 bolts going through them.

josephau 14-05-09 00:51

Hi OGR, I think Adventureboy or Ukboy have the similar designed helmet. Where is the pizza oven? :)

Am sorry you have been probably asked a thousand times, what brand and model of handguards you've got there? After having read some who have their reasons for not having wraparound guards and seeing the bar-end weights are in place, I am now thinking about going the same way. Would you recommend them and are they easy to mount? cheers.

schiptje 14-05-09 18:49

Yesterday, I did a trainingday with Endurofun.
With these big nephews. But the venom is in the back of the tail of the group!!! http://allroadmaniacs.nl/forum/Smile...niacs/cool.gif
After some explantion and a security briefing; of the road!
http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/1723/01groep.jpg
At night, there were some heavy rainshowers.
But the almost finished K60 tyre, did a great job!
A flashy picture, or should I say; splashy?
http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/8...spetterend.jpg
After 80km; a well deserved pitstop.
And then concentration for the second part of the ride!

Greetz!

Heh, what s the coincidence that the day after I also had my 12k mile service and got a loan Fazer 600 for the day (picked up on 13th). Took most of the day to get used to the Fazer....but pleased to get back on the Ten afterwards all the same!

I also got the cust drive replaced...aparently mine fell apart when they got it out.

I'd agree though...just a little bit more power and you've got the perfect bike.
