Step 1. Before turning the ignition on press and hold Select and Reset buttons, turn the ignition on and keep holding both buttons until you see the Diag screen appear.

Step 2. Press Select once to toggle to the CO MODE

Step 3. Press both Select and Reset together. Hold for about 3 seconds to enter co mode. The number displayed is the cylinder selected (genereric computer for all Yamahas) You need to select 1, Press select to scroll up and Reset to scroll down.

Step 4. Press both Select and Reset simultaneousley for a few seconds to see the setting for the selected cylinder. This number will be different on every bike and has no relationship to the mixture its just a number it can range from -128 to +128. Write down the number and keep it in a safe place in case you need to return to your original settings.

Step 5. Pressing select will increase the value (richen the mixture), pressing Reset will decrease it.

I initially increased my setting 5 digits from 10 to 15. This smoothed the bike out but still had a little surging. After reading what Alan and others have said it should be safe to increase your original setting by up to 10 digits. I will now adjust mine up another 3 to 18.

Step 6 To exit CO mode, turn off ignition.

Noticed benefits. The bike is now very smooth to ride and on my 1st adjustment took out almost all the surging/jerkiness. This has made the bike much easier to ride through corners where i can now get on the gas earlier in the corner increasing the mid corner speed.

More info can be found on the forum: fueling fix.

Some help please - when I did the above, the number was -5. I increased it to +5 (a change of 10) - is this correct?
cheers
Peter

Yes, you can go up in increments of 10 until you find the ideal setting for your bike, keep checking the spark plug at every change, to see if it's too dry or too wet.

excellent, thanks for the info - by "too dry" or "too wet", what would I look for? I have the technical knowledge of a goldfish....

Have a good read through that. in fact I'll make this a "sticky" in a new thread for the rest of the members to use as a reference

this site is brilliant - thanks!

You are safe to go up by 30, more then that & the bike will be to rich.

Just a reminder this CO adjustment is for idle & part throttle only, it does not adjust the fuelling once the throttle is past 19 on the Throttle Position Sender. To adjust the fuelling across the whole fuel range you need a fuelling device.

thanks Kev...
do you know anyone in Darwin who could do your fuel mod if I get it off Ebay? I wouldn't be able to do it myself.. (yes, I realise it is easy, but....!)
Also, the adjustment to the CO has sorted out 90% of the issues.

Adventure Boy 06-04-10 20:45

Was in the city allday today and the surging and harsh throttle responce was very much there and I felt the bike would be a pig offroad looked at the CO and it was at 11
I started increasing it by 5 at a time im now up to 41 an increase of 30 which ive read by Kev thats abouts as much as you can go the bike is better but still not as good as the XT660Z I had that was sooo much better
going to get a Kev mod next for sure
