I am new Yamaha 08. Tenere owner and this is my first contact with Yamaha. I ride cross ktm, I had Vstrom before this bike and of course this bike is without power after 1000cc bikes. But I read all this modification and I today put two new open pipes. From first day ( with original cans) it popped a lot when I turn off throtle, on low rpm. Why? Is it bad air/fuel mix? I think It is because it is rich mix, and all I read here with CO1 corection, we make richer mix?!
So what I have to do ?
To make air box modification, put K&N filters?
What CO corection to make?
I read about popping that it is not blocked AIS pipe?! What is AIS pipe?
Do I need to move to corect value TPS sensore and what is good TPS number?

Thanks a lot, I hope that I would like this bike.
Thanks a lot.

ok, I'm not all to hot on the Tenere, I'm aware they've got a different air box but I know there's still stage 2 filters for them.

That popping is 'backfire' It's when unburnt fuel in the exhaust system meets fresh air the the temperature causes it to burn rapidly in the exhaust. The AIS or Air Induction System is a system where a pipe from the airbox goes into the exhaust side of the engines head and on throttle closing a little valve opens and allows cool air from the airbox directly into the exhaust burning any unburnt fuel to help keep the emissions down.

It's basically a built in backfire system.

Stage 1 and 2 filters will add more HP

Adjusting the CO1 levels up is purely to help smooth out the engine running at small throttle openings (between 16 and 18 on the Throttle position sensor) I believe.

If you've got aftermarket cans then the AIS can be blocked to stop backfire

Generally, I'm led to believe that any value between 15 and 18 is ok for the TPS, the higher the value the richer the mixure will be. The TPS needs to be set with the throttle closed.

From Kevs understanding the best setting he found was 16.

First of all welcome.

I have put as much info on all XT660's in one section call the Modification Index. Page to the very bottom of this thread & you will find the info you need.

hello, i put the stock pipes on my xtx with the stage 1 filter, where the C01 number i put ? stock is number 7

thank you

CaptMoto 28-09-09 13:16

try increment of 5 and see which is the set up that suits you, it is a matter of trial an error for all of us, as no two bikes behave in the same way.

Good luck
