I've also seen some auxilliary tanks that Acerbis do - they fit on the rear rack/seat. |

Great news:yahoo: . So, just 4 moths left.
Somebody know any contact to place an order for one of those?? Saludos, Mauro |
Morning fridayman
Unaware of this thread, I sent an email to Acerbis (USA) to ask when they would be producing a large tank. A guy called Brian Fullerton replied to say there were no plans to produce an XT660R in USA or Italy at present. I coudl do with a large tank before end of year and did not want to spend silly money. Have you any contacts at Acerbis who I could chase about getting an Acerbis tank? I would take it to Timbuktu in January with Nick Sanders, so it would probably get into publicity photos etc. Cheers |
Techno Prisoners
I dont know if you know this but on Men and Motors (131 on sky) on thursdays at 8.30 there is a Timbuktu thingy on with nick sanders. I have been watching it and the roads are either good ie tarmac, or really crap ie sand, pistes, rippled tracks. After reading a few of his books i think he is a really down to earth bloke and the trip you have planned with him should be great. Make sure to keep us all up to date with what happens. |
You're right. Nick Sanders is a very straightforward guy. I had to make a conscious effort to try not to come across as being awestruck when I met him. You don't meet real heros very often in life! I think he's probably dispensed with all the "biker-hero" bs, along with all other useless baggage as he rode round the world several times un-noticed. He's very modest about what he does and has achieved. God knows how he keeps his head together when leading groups of relatively novice endurance riders. I reckon it is probably harder to do that than ride solo around the world.
The current TV series is film of the same trip completed in January 2007. The 2008 trip will be 8000 miles total, so that should be sufficient to get used to the XT - I'll be changing my name to Technosaurarse. I think he may have some places left for January 2008 if you look at his website www.nicksanders.com The site also has several pictures of an XT660R fully Metal Mule'd up. Hoping to get the snatchy throttle sorted before I attempt some of those rocky downhills or I'll be appearing in the spring 2008 series of Casualty!! Cheers. |

About time someone came up with a cheaper solution than OTR has to offer. In all fairness it should be said that OTR's are moulded carbon fiber. At 255$ that Acerbis are planning, I'm guessing they'll be plastic. Nothing wrong with that. Had I the choice, I'd be going for the plastic ones myself. Don't forget you'll propably need to add the cost of a pump kit and so on. But that'll propably bring the price up to about 300$ or something. World of difference from the OTR ones. Too bad I can't wait for them to come out as I will be leaving 4'th of November this year :(. |
