Never had an issue with mine?
No gasket, smear of exhaust gasket paste and tightened up. No leaks, no problems since. I haven't heard of this being mentioned before? |

How does yours make a snug fit? You cant twist it around the header pipe? The clamp must be able to squeeze the pipe, otherwise it wont clamp. And the ends of the pipe hardly move, despite the slots cut into it What type of exhaust gasket paste you use? |
It's hard for me to remember exactly, it was afair while ago I fitted my exhaust, but as far as I remember, the link pipe slipped on with a little resistance (but not much).
I used Bosal paste, the one that fits in a mastick gun. Over the years I've found it to be the best jointing compound. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Bo...ht_1488wt_1253 Also make sure the clamp is right at the end of the link pipe. Make sure no part of it is overlapping onto the un-slotted part of the tube or it will prevent it squeezing in. |
Hi -First, since this is my first post since introducing myself, and now having got about 1200 miles down on m'new wheels, I have to say I'm utterly, totally delighted with it, especially since treating it to Kev 02 & fuel mods and DNA 1&2. As a commuter / tourer I can't fault it, I bought it on a whim but have NO regrets!
Now - I have been following this thread with interest - I've just received an Exan can (as per Pleiades') and am also busily sticking bits of soil pipe together. I have a question though - As bought, the Exan mounts to the pannier mount, not ideal. Clearly a far better mount for the silencer and the tool tube is one utilizing a twin can mounting bracket. Pleiades, I think you used an Akropovic, but I'm having no joy finding one via Yamaha dealers or Akrapovic's importers, they all say "no longer listed". Others are presumably available, does anyone have any suggestions? Or - does anyone have such a bracket that they would be willing to part with for some beer tokens? |

Failing that, it wouldn't be too difficult to DIY fabricate a bracket that fits to the stock under-seat mounts. I can send you dimensions. You can still do the soil pipe tool tube mod using the pannier frame mounts, but as you have observed, it just isn't quite as neat and you can't get the strap in the middle of the tool tube to best support it's weight. |
Thanks - I'll give Moore Speed Racing a try. I do fancy having a go at fabricating a bracket myself though. I can't imagine it'd be too difficult. Would you mind sending me the dimensions?

Had a light bulb moment yesterday night; I work not far from Beowulf exhausts near Halifax. they don't do Tenere cans but the very nice guy there did sell me (for a quid!) a bracket from an XJ6. This can be morphed into a suitable hanger now that Pleiades has very kindly supplied me with the dimensions. Mr B. O'wulf is also supplying me with the necessary hardware - stainless bolts, can hangers , spacers etc. Fantastic!

Hey there,
I'm considering a new exhaust (will install it at the same time i change the rear shock). I'm looking for less weight and no cat, and Exan seems to be ok in this regards. My concerns are: - heat ? (compared to stock, and considering the stock exhaust has plastic shields) - noise? I read mixed review about that. I like to ride off or on roads in "remote" area, and don't want to be a nuisance (or too much of a nuisance, as some people just don't like to see motorcycles on trails) for hikers, bicycle riders, locals etc... Stock noise is really nice for that. As a comparison i have a leovince x3 exhaust on my wr250x (bought the bike with it), and i consider it a bit too much on the noisy side (it's acceptable but would prefer it quieter). I assume different options (X or oval shape, carbon cap or not, material used) just change the look/weight, not heat or noise? |

Noise - Again, it's a personal thing, but noise (or lack of it) was one of my key priorities in choosing an exhaust. The Exan (with baffle in) is what I would describe as discretely throaty, certainly not offensive and won't attract unwanted attention. Nobody I've ridden with, or anyone else for that matter has mentioned it as being loud. I suspect the oval and round versions will be quieter than the X-Black as they have a physically bigger silencer with more room for sound deadening material. (With dB killer out, it is loud!) The X-Black is the lightest of the three styles at a shade under 1.5Kg for the whole lot (titanium version), including link pipe and all the fittings. 6Kg less than stock and 5Kg less than a pair of Akras or Leos. |
Thanks Pleiades,
Exan is a good option then. Good thing, as I don't see other pretenders (forgot to say i want the exhaust to be CE approved) |
