Well spotted... it is!

There's nothing wrong with the Exan bracket supplied which fits to the rear upper pannier frame mount. However, for fitting a tool tube, a two-sided mount is required and it really needs to be further to the front of the bike so it can support the tool tube in the middle.

I was lucky that I happened to have an Akra bracket to hand, but it wouldn't be too difficult to fabricate something similar. I had to make something to support the front end of the tool tube anyway. Just saves a bit of time if you recycle old stuff!

AFAIK spare parts for all Yamaha approved Akrapovic exhausts are available to order from Yamaha dealers.

I see, i might visit a Yamaha dealer for it. I'm not that good in fabricating things from metal. I don't have the tools or the material. I'm thinking of getting a tool tube, but first i have to figure out what size it needs to be.

Meanwhile i mounted the exhaust to the pannier mounting point. But i had to use a long bolt out of my own supply. The bolt provided by Exan was useless...

This week is my new exhaust arrived. And today I had the time to install it on my Tenere. Of course I was curious, and took it for a spin. The exhaust sound is quite harder, and he sounds like a real motorcycle now. What I did notice was the loud backfire and, when closing throttle, I looked back and saw fire coming out... . Of course I do not want trouble with my neighbor, and other road users. Did you had this problem too?

The backfiring is normal - it is not a problem as such. Your bike won't actually be doing it any more than before, it's just that you didn't notice it because of the stock silencers baffling and catalyst. If you don't like the popping and banging on the overrun, then just block the AIS pipe and it will all but disappear...

What other mods are you running with this exhaust? Fuelling mod, Power Commander, air filters etc.

I thought so ... Besides the exhaust I had the Kevmod and the O2 controller mounted. Must say the bike runs very smooth now, maybey it can breath free now. Thanks for the AIS tip!

Metal Mule compatible?

Folks,

I'm thinking of getting An Exan oval titanium exhaust.

Has anyone got one of these fitted with the Metal Mule pannier system?

I've contacted Mad4exhausts as well.

Thanks
Simon

I see no reason why it wouldn't fit with an Exan exhaust. The Exan silencer fits within the external dimensions of the stock system (in fact it's narrower), so it shouldn't be an issue. Sorry I can't give you a definitive answer.

I'm not aware of any member who has one fitted with a MM rack? We've seen Exan systems fitted successfully with Givi, Touratech and Holan racks. However, I do know the MTC system fits with the MM rack and the Exan exhaust is narrower and more compact.

TBH, the Exan silencer mount will actually be easier to fit with an MM pannier rack. The MM pannier frames use top of the subframe for a fixing so it will be independent of the silencer, which mounts to the side of the subframe (where almost all of the other manufacturers' pannier frames fix to).

Exan X-Black Single Exhaust (inc. DIY Tool Tube)

That's good info. We now know it will fit with all the popular racks. Don't forget to post some photos here when you've got it fitted...

Today i discovered a fitting issue with my Exan.

Where the link pipe is fitted to the header, the fit is loose. I can twist it and pull it off without too much hassle.
Also there's was no gasket supplied to make an air tight fit. But there's no space for a gasket eigher, since the fit of the link pipe is "snuggish".

The link pipe has slots cut out, seemingly for the ends to be able to fold inwards for a tight fit.

But the pipe is so strong, it doesnt really bend. I've tightened the clamp. Getting it any tighter i think something will snap.

How is your fit?
