It's sealant that you need to apply to the outer edge of the filter before you slot it in, so it seals any gap stopping air from escaping.

Its Rubber Lube, great for suspension also! (rubber bushes)

I suppose it is to ease assembly, and to make a seal. I haven't a Stage 2 , SO DON'T REALLY KNOW.!!

Does anybody know where I can buy a steel cover to fit the outside of DNA stage 2 filter on a XTR? I'm not trusting the seal without an even pressure around the filter.
