DNA High Performance Filters - Who's got what?
Guys I need your help, recently there have been quite a lot of orders for DNA Filters which have already been processed or are in the process of being delivered, after I process them and make sure they have been dispatched, I am not that good at keeping a record of who's got what directly through me, so please can you write which filter you've ordered XTX/XTR or XTZ and stages 1, 2 or 3.
Also it would be nice and useful for other potential buyers / forum member to read what your impressions are on these filter and how they've worked for you. Even if you didn't buy them directly from us or got them free for testing (Kev & Freez) please write a small concise report on the performance.
I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR THIS.
------------- I messed up the original thread so I had to do this, sorry: replied by drb277: Ok I'll go first. I've only got the stage 2 ( more than likely get a stage 1 at some point ). Its made the biggest difference to my bike, performance wise.:icon_mrgreen: It smoothed it out a bit and made it have more go everywhere. I found I can even go that bit slower in each gear too which makes town riding much better. At the time of fitting I still had the original exhaust and the intake noise was then louder than the exhaust. :icon_burnout[1]::icon_thumright: GET ONE IF YOU HAVEN@T ALREADY, you wont be dissapointed. __________________ Mods so far:- Kev Mod/Snorkel Removed/Airbox Drilled/CO2 Upped/Cush Drive Mod/DNA Stage 2/M.T.C. What can I say, this is the best air filter mod I have tested on the XT660, it produces the most HP & Torque than any other filter set up fitted to an XT660X/R. Shows a 7.2HP, 6.13 FT/LBS gain over a standard XT660 on my bike, thats a 18% increace in HP & 16% increase in torque. http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...evxtx/1-38.jpg __________________ :typing[1]: CLICK HERE ----- For the full index of XT660 Mods Click here to join the XT Supporter's scheme Mods that I have done to my XTX over time. --------------- Replied by Krusty: Fitted Dna stage 2 filters and the Kev mod today. Nice easy job which has totally transformed the bike. Fitted some Leovince exhaust last weekend which definatley let the bike breath a little more but, as others have reported, with the filters fitted the bike now pulls from lower revs and is much quicker to hit the rev limiter. Happy days .:icon_bounce: Got to thank Kev for a great mod and super fast delivery from Aus. Nick |
I have got a stage 2 DNA filter and top, bought it from Big Den when he sold his bike after 3 months (long time for him)

XT660Z Tenere - DNA Stage 2 Filter & Cover
I have the DNA S2 setup, along with a PC-V (supplied by Simon with a pre-installed map for this setup). Standard cans.
I've not done anything with the 02 sensor yet or the AIS. The bike feels no different from stock up to around 4000rmp, it then pulls with much more purpose and focus pretty much constant all the way to the red line. Riding the bike, the main difference I find is during overtakes. The Tenere always felt a little lethargic and requiring overtakes to be planned in advance (to get the gear/rev combination right for a swift manouvre). With the DNS/PC-V combination overtakes can be taken at shorter notice. When the bl00dy ice melts on our lanes up here I'll give her a try to see the difference. I've not yet tried with the bike loaded up either. It might just be me, but I'm sure the bike is a little louder than before - no idea why or how - maye I've just cleaned my ears out! |

I have the stage 3 filter on my X it is very well made, makes a nice induction roar, also makes the bike perform better than the stage1+2 filters ,they are a bit on the pricey side but i am glad i got one as the bike rides a lot better with it

Stage 3
Capt Moto,
I ordered and have recieved (via you) the air filter and the open top cover for the XTZ. I already had the air box side cover. So I am ready for stage 3. I have ordered the PC V from Simon and he is going to sort me out with a map allowing for Stage 3 + Apropovik pipes. Once I get it all together I will let you know the results. Thanks Colin |
Ive got k+n stage 1 (fleabay), stage 2 dna (off fran) and home made kev mod and drilled air box and snorkel removed.
Did stage 1, air box mod, snorkel removel and kev fuel mod in one go and it made a big difference to low down pull meaning less down changes and also much smoother power delivery through the entire revs. Installed stage 2 and had to raise tickover as it kept cutting out, (idleing too low). Also turned kev mod up to full now as plug was a bit dry after fitting stage 2. Further improvement to smoothness of power delivery and seemingly more power throughout the entire rev range. When I removed the snorkel, drilled the airbox and fitted stage 1 there was a very big difference in air induction noise. When stage 2 was fitted there was extra air induction noise again, (now pretty loud!), but not an issue to me. In my opinion well worth the money spent. Next move, MTC cans and power commander. Thanks to Fran + Kev.:SpinHappy_15XK8L: |
Fitted DNA stage 2 recently. brspecial had an offer on.
I removed the snorkel and fitted home made fuel mod+02 sensor bypass thing within the first week of having the bike. On both occasions I had to raise the idle to prevent stalling, and noticed a nice change in sound from the intake, and noticed abit more go. (maybe the sound was abit odd to me at first, probably because the air intake isn't usually louder than the exhaust lol.) I've got the fuel mod adjusted down by 4deg now. as the recommended 5 I think is for both DNAs and holes drilled. I forgot you can get a rough idea from the sparkplug colour/condition. will have a look soon. I still can't bring myself to drill the airbox, being a newish bike, maybe I can be convinced. I dropped a tooth on the rear sprocket a month or so ago, this does make the gears slightly longer. but I definately noticed it was slower to pull. Now with the stage2 I got the zing back. I'm gonna have to check Kev's 'how much power from each mod' section again, see if it's worth getting the drill out. ;) Maybe I should get DNA stage1 first. and then likewise Stumpydave, cans and a nice PC. slowly but surely the mods fall in place..... |

Mines a 59 plate bought october last year with 000000 on clock. Ive actually gone slightly further than drilling my airbox, I've cut the sides out of it behind the stage 1 filter. It started out as drilling but then I joined the holes up!!!! My line of thinking is you can pick another up of fleabay for about 40 so what the heck, its only money!!!! If you look at what kev says though he says to drill 28mm holes then if you want to reverse it after you can put bungs in the holes. Be a devil, go for it. |
Capn got the XTZ Stage 3 from you. Bike getting it's winter spring clean etc at the mo' so no results for now.
|
I purchesed, through you, the DNA stage 1,2 and 3. Wating for the PC to be del' from Simon-C. Will let you know how things go after completion of the PC.
Best wishes, Ryland |
DNA High Performance Filters - Who's got what?
Thought you guys might be interested to see what we achieved with the full set of DNA filters, powercommander and a set of Leo Vince exhausts.
Power output at peak RPM is up by around 20%. Not bad with a few bolt on mods. The dyno report below shows 3 graphs, all done with the same Tenere. The green line with 37.33 HP peak is an all stock bike, nothing added. The blue line shows 42.29 HP and what you should achieve with a stock exhaust system, powercommander and a full set of DNA filters. (DNA stg 1, 2 and 3). The red line shows what gains are possible with the full set of DNA filters, powercommander and a set of Leo Vince exhausts. Note the exhausts still had the quite inserts at the end in to reduce noise levels. Noise output is actually not that much louder than stock and I personally think you should not have problems with the law with that sort of noise output. A solid 1 to 2 HP gain was achieved with the pipes, right across the whole RPM range. I created a new fuel map for the powercommander also, so keep an eye out for it in the members section. http://www.quadparts.co.za/dyno/tenere-dna-leo.jpg |
Just dropped stage 1 in, I was accelerating to the highway to test it and found the front tire in the air. Has not happened before amd I was totally not expecting anything like that, I'm happy and going to order stage 2 also :)

XT660 with more air + more fuel = more power.

XT660 With stg 2 filter pure power, nice sound from air box :deathmetal[1]:

Stage 1 upgraded to stage 2
Stage 2 is now installed, Kev mod at -7C and CO1 at 35 (no idea of the original).
Quite surprisingly the difference was not as big as it was from stock to stage 1, I guess the stock was quite dirty when I got the bike. Biggest change was for top gear driving at around 80 km/h which was a bit dodgy before, now the bike goes just fine. The sound is also very nice. I am a bit worried about the fit, even though I did not overtighten the screws, the filter feels a bit floppy and I'm worried that it would leak. Also I'm a bit worried to start driving on gravel roads. Perhaps I'm just stupid, but I might just replace the normal cover for my autumn roadtrip. |
Fittted dna 1&2 2 years ago , with no cans or nothing else. The bike could after this pop the front wheel in 2. There is also a nice sound from the engine trough the new filters. Later i mounted CCC,RB3 to get some more juice out of it.

Yesterday I got the DNA Stage 1 filter.
Haven't had time to install it yet. I'm going to install it when I get home today. I nodiced a small jar with some red stuff in it that came with the filter. What is that anyway? |
Quote:
It's sealant that you need to apply to the outer edge of the filter before you slot it in, so it seals any gap stopping air from escaping. |

Thanks for the info! |

hmmhmmhm hmmh mmh h Did you say you liked your new lippy, yes its a lovely shade of red!!!! :021: |
had a small testride today.
Surging is back and my exhaust isn't backfiring. I think I need to up the CO level again. |

I've gotta admit, when I got my stage 2, I didn't get any sealant or anything with it. Does that seem a little odd? |
Its Rubber Lube, great for suspension also! (rubber bushes)
I suppose it is to ease assembly, and to make a seal. I haven't a Stage 2 , SO DON'T REALLY KNOW.!! |
Does anybody know where I can buy a steel cover to fit the outside of DNA stage 2 filter on a XTR? I'm not trusting the seal without an even pressure around the filter.

Me too :)

On the performance of the DNA's. I was disappointed with the quality of the stage 1. Purchased online from the distributor in Aus. However, when fitted, the taper was such that the filter did not seal completely. I should have sent it back, but... I used some self adhesive backed weather seal applied to the taper side of the airbox (if this makes sense?). On the performance side; I fitted stage 1 + 2 together along with Kev's fuel mod. I have to say that with standard cans the induction noise was dreadful. With the new exhaust I can no longer hear the induction noise. On my bike with the Dominator mufflers I run the fuel mod at around 7 o'clock. Most noticeable is the change in the bikes ability to cruise at higher speed. I haven't touched the CO, nor do I have a PC. http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/...ps7c4ff7a4.jpg |
Hi all.
i have dna stage 1, 2 & 3, leovince sbk l and PC V, im already using a map that works very well but i need to do other things? im thinking on this: Fuelling Fix i need to adjust the fuelling? |
Quote:
If you want the best set up then go to a Dyno centre and have your proper map taylor made for the set up you are running. |
XTR had both when I bought it....
after seeing dust in the intake after the filters.... oiled foam went in pretty quickly.... yes I did notice a slight power loss but the air is now clean... worth every horse that it lost... If I had a XTX that was road only a set of DNA filters would be my first mod... but I won't go near DNA / K&N style filters on a bike that see's off road use... .. |
Hi,
The bike had Stage 1+2 when I bought it, what does that mean? The filter plus another box? And also the snorkel is removed, got a hole beneath the sadle. And also Kev's Fuelmod and O2 sensor I think, should be with the O2 sensor since it's a 2008 model? Best regards W |
Stage 1 is the replacement of the standard yamahs filter with an aftermarket one. Either k+n or DNA.
Stage 2 is a filter that fits in place of the side cover on the air box. Snorkel is removed as its restrictive Kevs mods allow the adjustment of the systems factory settings which in turn enables the mods to do what there designed for... |
Mods fitted this weekend XT660x 2010.
6 Attachment(s)
Snorkel removed.
Fitted: Kev fuel mod, o2 controller, stage 1 K&N stage 2 DNA air filters, adjustable clutch and break leavers (from eBay only 16 great value great quality) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CNC-Brake-...72.m2749.l2649 :headhack: |
