Actually I've already spoken to TT and explained the problem so I'm very tempted to send them back to them and buy the KTM hand guards. The vibration has taken the smooth ride of the tenere away for me

.

do you happen to have a pic at all I quite fancy doing this

To be honest, I wish I hadn't bought the TT handguards. I was after weather protection more than crash protection, and I think the KTM handguards described in other threads - which fit with very little in the way of modification - provide better weather protection for a lot less money.

To modify get the KTM handguards to fit you need to chop a bit off the right hand (throttle) guard to fit around the brake cylinder. You'll also need some 16mm washers to pad between the throttle grip and the bar-end to stop the throttle sticking if you don't want to cut back the grips (eg you have oxford grips).

In case anyone finds its useful I could not initially figure out where to get the washers from - I was helped out by my neighbour who kindly sourced some from his work but you want something like the below, basicaly a 16mm washer to fit over the M16 bolt size on the barend. I used 2 on the throttle side and one of the left hand site so my grips were not squashed in as much.

Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with these sites and these are examples only, I have not used these myself to confirm the size against what I'm currently using.

Here you go, KTM handguards fitted complete with Oxford heated grips. You can clearly see the bit you need to chop away. Hope this helps.

Those KTM hand guards are the definite answer, they look as if they will give a lot more weather protection too. I'm going to call TT now and ask for a refund! Wish me luck!

I wish you luck! They do offer a great deal of weather protection, although I did not fit these myself they are fantastic and were my handguard of choice. They have not dissapointed me in any way.

Ah right! Do you mind me asking who fitted them for you? I'd be interested in somebody taking the hassle out of fitting them especially if they have to be trimmed!

The previous owner fitted them but did make a point in saying they needed to be spaced to stop the throttle sticking. He also said the handlebar cross bar brace brackets needed reversing to give enough clearance on the brackets (you can see that in the first picture I posted). He did an excellent job.

I would agree he did an excellent job. I can't even see at first glance where he trimmed the guard to clear the brake cylinder! I did not need to move my cross-bar brace however.

I removed the TT hand guards last night and this mornings ride was vibration free! Problem solved, have spoken to Touratech and they are discussing it with the 'German Engineers' so will wait and see. I know they can be modified but with the wind deflectors they cost 120 and Im not prepared to go chopping them up to get the stock bar ends to work, for that price I expect them to work out of the box. Unless they come up with a alternative fix they'll be going back and I'll buy the KTM guards (I'm happy to have to trim these slightly for 45!)
