I am not very knowledgeable on the matter, but having read the same question asked from Storm to Kev, I think the mileage is stored somewhere else and when you replug the dash it should relog the data as it was before you unplugged it.

Ok Capt, Fair enough... but ad really like tae know fur sure,,,maybe a`ll need tae ask Kev.????? cheers.

The CO1 setting is stored in the engine ECU & the Mileage is stored in the dash. When the key is turned off, the last setting are burn in a permeant solid state memory chip in each ECU, which does no rely on battery power. So if the battery is disconnected it will still have it's Mileage & settings stored. I have spent the last 4 hours trying to get the dash to change, it does not seem to work on my Kms dash. One thing I have researched is that the UK has a different dash cluster. 5VK-83500-20. I have this dash kms 5VK-83500-30. UK only miles Can some other members with Mile & Kms dashes try to change visor versa to see if the 5VK-83500-20 dash is unchangeable. Cheers Kev |
In a very strange way it makes sense, as uk is the minority in being the only country using miles instead of KM, explaining also the need of a conversion possibility, in case the bike is sold in Europe. The only other country using mph is USA where the bike is not imported anyway.
If that is the case this is bad news for young John who is now lumbered with a speedo that will only display KMH. And John if you can't live with it, you could always re-sell it on eBay to get your money back and operate the current one with the broken fitting until you find another compatible one. Sorry bro :( Though if my memory doesn't fail me, Lawrence is about to break his bike and as far as I know his speedo is still in working conditions, only his fork/frame are fugged. Give him a bell, oh .... and remember, if he wants to sell it to you, and you need it in a rush you'd have to go and get it yourself off his bike, cause he can't use his hand yet, oh... and while you're there, help him out, will ya?.... give him a hand :D, know what I mean? Only make sure you bring me back his swingarm what it's got my name on it already :D :D :D |
Not all lost
Captmoto if this is why the km dash can't be set to Miles, not all is lost as a speedo healer can be fitted to correct the kms to miles.
|
Ha!! That is very good news then, I thought the speedo healer only adjusted incorrect reading caused by using different size sprocket than those for which the bike was calibrated with, didn't know you can also convert miles to kilometres and v/versa. And John will now be able to kill 2 pigeons with one stone since he was contemplating changing the front sprocket. mabozzar!!

You can build one yourself from Jaycar in the UK, 14.50 Pounds. http://www.jaycarelectronics.co.uk/ Type in speedo in their Product search |
Thanks guys, you've all been really helpful. I think my plan will be this:
-PM Loz and see if his dash unit is OK, and if he'll sell it to me. -In the meantime, I'll live with KMH -When my first MOT is due (July I think) I'll make the call on the speedo healer, if I havn't found another UK dash. Storm |
Fran.... mind gie Loz a shout about his Plastics... seein your swingin arm is booked....no whit a mean.....John
